Aaargh!

Went to the doctor and have to keep the neck brace on at least 3 more weeks. I keep looking at all the projects everyone out there is doing, and I'm staring skyward. Can't even drive with the darned thing on so have to wait for weekends for hubby to drive me around.

Stumpfarmer - never understood how you got stir crazy - it's not being able to get around. I'm going nuts here.

So, I'm trying to do some sewing. Right now I'm just finishing the pattern making stage ready for the fabric (custom design and measurements). I just took out the fabric to start cutting. It's hard though. I have lots of fabrics to choose from.
(don't tell doc, I take the brace off for this bit!)

Can't do much in the yard though. It's going to get worse before it gets better. Pruning will just have to wait.

And, himself and I decided to get rid of ALL the birds (ducks and chickens) this year, and start over. We shall be reseeding the pasture and designing a new coop with storage. We will fence round the pod so the goats do eat the ornamental trees, but they will have access to the whole pasture (since they don't bother the grass much.

This is how the pond area "should" look!

I felt bad about my doctor telling me I had to keep the walking boot for another six weeks. then I read about your neck brace and I feel blessed. I hope it goes quickly for you and you emerge healthy and sound.

we try and have a little more fat on the hogs than the standard hog for grocery stores. They have a more intense flavor and are moister than their grocery counterparts as well as having our gmo free feed and access to pasture. I have many repeat costermers on hogs and am even shipping one to alaska for a customer that has moved.
the hanging weight on a half is a little over 100lbs. and is 4.50/lb to the farm plus about 100.00 to the butcher. it will yield about 80 lbs to the freezer and you get to give cut and wrap insturctions to the butcher.

Quote: Thanks Paul - I'm feeling fabulous, and doc says he's amazed at how fast it's healing - BUT, that's on the outside, the bones need to heal too. Oh well, I'm being good. Don't want to end up a quadriplegic through my own rush to do stuff.

How about you - I must have missed some posts while I was in hospital - what did you do to your foot? How long has it been, when will you be with out the boot? good luck, walk straight!

To WALady944....

Thanks for Niqui (Dominique). She is at my house with Fluffy (LB) in a bathroom. I'm hoping having two of them at home will get the hubby moving on helping me finish the pen roof so I can get DE and sand in there.

Been a busy weekend for me. Way too many pages to catch up on.

Have a great week everyone.

that sounds awesome, and I can really appreciate grass-fed, pasture-raised, non-GMO pork .....but almost $7 a lb- ouch!

After haveing this pork I would not go back, but I get that it is not cheap. It just is expensive to raise this way.

So...how about I do a pulled pork party along with the processing class. This way everyone gets to try some. We provide the pork and get people to bring a few sides.

on that note I have had several people ask if I could raise out some birds for them for the class and I have resisted. the reason for that is I usually only offer chicken to people getting meat packages and don't want to get bogged down in producing too many chickens with eveything else we have going on here. that being said, I would be willing to both get some chicks for people who can raise their own as well as raise out one batch of 50 for the processing class and make those availabe to people who attend the class at our normal rate of 4.50lb.

so at this point the "class" would be expierenced instruction on processing. at the class you could either bring your own meat birds( I can get these at whole sale if you need some), roosters, and culls or I will also have up to 50 meat birds for sale if anyone wants them. there will be a pot luck with our pulled pork as the main dish plus what ever anyone brings. The meal and instruction is no charge, chicks if you need them at cost, and if you would like me to raise some out they would be at our normal price.

the instruction will be as hands on or off as any individual wants. nobody has to do any more than they are comfortable with.

I completly destroyed the ankle about 20 years ago and had it reconstructed. In january I rolled it pretty bad and did some nerve damage that is very, very slow to heal. pain and numbness from the heal to the end of the big toe. Doc says it is improving, but just slowly.

Winter just makes me completely nuts, no kidding- even when I'm busy outside all the time, the mere fact that I run out of a single item can make every project grind to a halt. People who think I've somehow perversely chosen not to drive are... lacking in kindness. Anyway, hit submit instead of return: like the fence, as I like ALL well built fences I do not have to put up, trouble-shoot, or maintain. In general, my thought is the more fences the less bother, although looking at the prices on the unclimable goat fence at Del's was a heart-stopping experience.

Thanks for the condolences of loosing my two cream legbar chicks from California. I was heartbroken. Our X handyman saw I was using an empty box which he owned to prop up my chicks close enough to the brooder lamp to stay warm. He couldn't stand the fact I was using HIS box for MY CHICKENS and took the box away without replacing or telling anyone, When I got up and checked my chicks I see them a long ways from the light falling over from the chill. I went ballistic. Last straw. Two died within 15 min of each other and he keeps telling me it wasn't because they got cold. All over a stupid empty box thrown in the corner for the last 6 mo and I wasn't hurting it at all. I have shared everything with this boy/man for the last 3 yrs. and he couldn't share an empty box. End of story. He is moving.

As a side note hubby felt so bad about my loosing the chicks that way and realized how hard it was to get them has allowed me to buy an 1588 Hovabator. It was shipped today. twisting anxiously in my seat. I will need to do a set of test eggs and then I can order more cream legbar eggs he said. So this has brought me back up some and the one female legbar left is a feisty thing. She is head chick in the 13 chicks left. She is a week, They are 3 weeks silkies. Put a grape in there and blam. The baby gets it every time.

LF, I'm so sorry to hear about your babies. I brought home my Niqui (Dominique) from Walady944 yesterday. Took her out to the brooder where the other 4 of my babies were. She is at least a week older and she was bullying the smaller chicks. So.... Niqui and Fluffy are now at my house. I have setup a crate with food/grit and water in the upstairs bathroom. There is a wall heater to keep it warm enough, and a light that will go off at night so they start sleeping when it's dark. I'm also hoping this will get the hubby to work on the pen roof so the pen will be ready in about 3 weeks when the girls can go outside.

I was worried about Fluffy when we first got home. She was breathing heavy and wasn't walking around or eating. She snuggled into my hair on my shoulder for about 15 minutes and her breathing calmed down, but she was still lethargic. Today she was eating, and moving around so I'm less worried. I put in both probiotics and electrolites into their water, since they both were moved yesterday. They both eat out of my hand and I can pick them up easily. I'm training them that belly scratches don't always mean they will be picked up. That way I can scratch them, or pick them up as I wish without them running away. So far they seem to like the crate as they don't want to leave it, but I'm guessing that will change in the next few days.

My GF that is brooding the babies lost her father over the weekend, so her hubby is the new "broody hen" for the babies.

Quilting retreat was a blast. I got a quilt top done and nother 80% done. Now to finish the second one and work on other UFO (un-finished projects).
