Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I actually do Fermented Feed from the meat chickens thread. But wet feed is better than dry. I just add water and stir until I get an oatmeal consistancy. I currently feed between 6-8 cups daily for all 20 adult and chicks.
we do too, less than 2 cups of GMO free layer feed plus occasional scraps for 5 free range layers. We also have 6 chicks almost 5 weeks old in the kitchen who are going through about 2 cups per day fermented chick starter. We went with drug free non GMO starter this time and add a teaspoon of vinegar to their water and they are all in perfect health so far.

I'M SO FAR BEHIND!!! I go outside to burn some wood, go to sleep and wake up to 17 pages! Thanks y'all!

I laughed so loud!!!

anyway how is everyone? Anyone want two rooster chicks? Both red something or another. I think they are supposed to be RIR's. I'm keeping the one black Roo for my mom.
Please send me a message if ya want one, I'm not on here much cause i have a puppy and he keeps me busy and off my butt.
Two of the RIR's are roos? And only one BA? Hmmm... strange, I could've swore it was the other way around, I guess I'll have to work at my chick sexing.

Hi SLB! I bet your puppy is getting HUGE! That's some good info for the Yelm folks. I think she's having a prob with the HOA, however....psha....HOA....smh....

If I OWN a home, I should be able to do WHATEVER I wanna do! Association that!
Again... laughing my butt off!!! I do own my home, and I do whatever I wanna do... and my neighbors might hate me for it! lol... but the feeling MIGHT be mutual.

I put down Elphaba. I am so glad I did too, her entire cavity was filled with a clear yellow liquid(not normal). And she had no eggs developing in her ovum cluster at just over 6mo. At least she is not in pain anymore. I just wish now that I would have done it a few days ago.

Sorry to hear that. What does the clear yellow liquid mean?

Here is Frodo's Salmon Faverolle chick around five weeks.

And here is Henrietta (or Henry?) Frodo's Light Sussex chick.

One of all three - there are lots more photos in my "Spring 2013" album (link in my signature.)

OK, along this line of thinking......

Are there any foods/greens/fruits that I SHOULDN'T feed my chicks and hens? (Other than meats, of course)
And why not meat, they after all omnivores! If you toss out bones, they will totally clean them for you.

I also see some people don't feed gluten foods, because they think it can pass through - It can't. the only way they can be contaminated is by contact, gluten food is digested first.

My Chickens and I eat awesome fried chicken from albertsons all the time. I sit out in the yard and we all share. nothing wrong with feeding them meat, they need protein.

Quote: Why would you feed those to chickens? Just curious... Those are sacred gifts from the gods in my house! Of course I see that list and think, potato chips and sanity snack!

I went to a "class" at JustBugged's house a while back. I brought 3 of my own birds for processing (culls...extra roosters) and when the time came I simply couldn't do the kill. It was OK, JB did it for me, but I did learn a valuable skill of processing the birds on my own. By the end I was taking the one's who'd been killed and processing them without help. I'm glad I went although came home queasy and feeling upset for a few days. I'm glad I know that skill now and can use it if and when needed, and I know if I'm hungry enough I could kill our own birds for a meal...just not yet.

I appreciate the way you put it Paul, whatever people are ready for is just fine for them :)
IMO, I think it would be best for people culling "pet" chickens they are close with to swap with someone else doing the same thing. It's really hard to process a pet or a bird you bonded with.

LF - I'm pretty sure the world has already gone nuts.

Ok so that house made out of wine bottles?? Someone needs to explain to them what shrapnel is. I hope they don't have earthquakes! Heaven forbid a car hit their house!

I do not know what else she has, but I know she has rosecomb ancona's because i bought hatching eggs from her at the monroe show

day 13 on them and I thing 16 out of 17 are looking very good.

also have the first 30 turkey eggs in the incubator.
I'm picking up eggs from her tomorrow! That development rate sounds really good.

I hope I have your luck! You're going to have Turkeys when we come up to process?? If one goes missing, I'll be pointing fingers, because I didn't do it!

SudsyChick - I love that little one's march! They're all so adorable!
