The March/April issue of BackHome Magazine has an article on Ameraucana, Araucana, and Easter Eggers and how no hatchery sells anything other than Easter Eggers not matter what they call them. It was a nice article that actually got the breeds right and directed readers to look for private breeders.

Most EEs lay greenish or khaki eggs. Out of 12 I'd bought (I knew what I was buying), one lays a pink, one a blue, one a grassy green, and the rest are greenish to khaki and olive. Mom hates the khaki and olive ones, but loves the blue, green, and pink.

I have quite a few blue eggs now from all the wheaten, blue wheaten, and silver girls. I'll eventually just have BBW ameraucanas and silkiebators.

One way to help tell if what you're buying is an actual ameraucana or araucana is if the color is named. Since they come in so many colors, there should be color type next to the name on any chicks someone is selling. That doesn't guarantee if you're dealing with someone unscrupulous, but it helps a ton.

I need to say

and to the Washington thread to all the new people.

I haven't been able to be on much lately. We're going razor clam digging in the rain in the morning so it's off to bed very shortly for me.

My children are melting. Literally, melting down, crying, sugar is wearing off and the long day is causing chaos. We had a great day until now ;) My mini Pinata cakes didn't turn out as I'd hoped, but the birthday boy and everyone else still thought they were awesome so I won't complain. I'm a TERRIBLE baker so at least they tasted good! Pics in a minute, from the ipad.

One great thing about today was William's ophthalmology appointment. We wanted to get his next corrective eye surgery over with if he needed one (he had one at 8mo old) and it turns out his glasses have helped his turned eye so much that he won't need a surgery again for the foreseeable future! Woohoo!!!
Nice! Way to go William!!!
