Here are our JG chicks!... We are hoping they are all pullets.

As long as you are not leaving them out unattended over night, they should be ok. Just keep an eye on them.
The tramp-o-tractor is for day time use only. I will be letting them almost free range by moving the tramp-o-tractor around in the backyard. The pen is for times when no one is home and over night.

The girls are spending their first night in the pen tonight. I'm hoping it isn't too cold for them.

They're silver laced Wyandottes, and those backs do look like girls: cockerels have a much fancier shoulder feathering.
Interesting. My GF's SLW doesn't have that much white on her. She is much more black than white, but perhaps it's because she is only about 7 weeks old???

So, since I've been asking so many noob questions....here's another. Do the chicks go through a feather loss, or molt, before they start laying? I have noticed my two seem to lose a few small feathers a day.

Busy day today. Got some barbed wire taken out, fencing put up to keep the horses off the bridge, some of the blackberry bushes taken out and dead branches from last year's ice storm put into a large pile for burning. Then, made a taco casserole which was a huge hit. I then went out to get my drink that I had left in the car, tripped and fell flat on the sidewalk in front of the house. I was stuck sitting on the ground, because I was laughing so hard, I couldn't get up. My family did not notice that I had not come back in the house. All I could think about was the night that my grandma fell down in the street walking home from my mom's house and she said that Grandma got run over by a reindeer played in her head, in between thoughts of "oh no, what if a car comes around the corner". This made me laugh even harder. Good grief.
Quote: X2 I am glad I was not the only one. I am clueless with trying to tell on the littles. Speaking of, at least one of my white leghorn "pullets", is not a pullet. Possibly 2. That would make 3 Leghorn roos. I have to decide what to keep, then DH said that 2 will go to freezer camp. I guess I will find out if I can raise meat birds or not.

Goodness!! They are so cute. I saw a JG for the first time when I got my silkie roo. They are huge!! The lady's rooster stood as high as my knee.

No, it's probably because she's a hatchery chicken. There's a lot of variation in hatchery Wyandottes, and almost all of them are much darker than they should be.

Apparently nobody's been posting in the Wyandotte thread right now, and I'm out of brain cells to find you a good photo, sorry.
