Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Not at all! I was just pulled up short when I realized what I'd typed, lol. It did come across as not knowing that. BUT! My question still hangs in the air, do hens lay infertile eggs if they are bred by a fertile rooster? I'm so curious now!
I will, but given the girls are not yet at POL, it's counting the chickens before they hatch, lol.
Chantrelles a-plenty in Olympia! Every fall go to the mossy, leafy damp places and there they are, yummy and free.

I just wanted to say that the first, black bird is downright stunning. And I don't like Silkies...

I worked for State Farm for 5 years, but it was in Washington State. Here, the person responsible pays the deductible. I hope it works out smoothly. By the way, an important note: BE THE SQUEAKY WHEEL. Don't let them ignore you. This should be wrapped up TO YOUR SATISFACTION quickly. If you don't agree with the Claims Adjuster, get your agent to help you. They DO want to help you, as you are their direct income. Not true for the Adjusters. Just sayin'.

Be very alert to any physical symptoms that may arise within a week. They are covered. Well, if you have average insurance, not just the basics.

Babies are pipping and zipping and popping out - a mix of bantams - so cute!

I read a study done recently about hens being able to expel any unwanted semen from a roo she doesn't like. So she could mate with 4 different roos and only take in the roo she liked. I guess if she doesn't like her roo at all she could expel his semen and not fertilize the egg? Just guessing on what I read. We need more scientists involved with watching chickens mate and then doing dna tests. The world depends on it!!!!

Thanks, I am getting more excited about my birds. I really want to show.

So do we can, freeze or dry our wonderful mushroom harvest this year?

I am in the middle of trying to figure out why some of mine didn't hatch. Not looking forward to investigating. Must do. Hope your babies are as cute as mine that hatched. The BCM are so friendly at a day old. Put my hand in there and they run to it and climb in. The SLW are more like, hey, what you want? Definite personalities already. I think I am getting more attached hatching my own. They don't go through all the drama that they would in a hatchery and pet store. I am really looking forward to seeing what they turn out like.

Hi, and Welcome to our group.  You kind of slid in under the radar without any fanfare.  :welcome
There is a good breeder of Wheaten Ameraucanas in Gig Harbor / Key Pen.  But eggs from an Ameraucana or EE will be sky blue, not bright blue.  Perhaps a cream legbar will be brighter, but they are usually harder to get due to the scarcity of that breed.

Thank you for the welcome! I should have introduced myself, but forgot which forums I have and haven't done that on! Sky blue is just fine... If they wouldn't mind, could you give me the names of the folks you know? Pm is fine if it needs to be private:)

Realized i had some pictures of him on my phone So considering he had black skin, Black bones, and ALL dark meat like no chicken I've ever seen.
He is obviously not all black, but there is a rare Indonesian breed called Ayem Cemani that has black everything.... Feathers, skin, meat, and bones. Maybe it is a mix or at least has similar genetics? GreenFire farms is introducing them if you want to look them up!

The hatchery Sumatra roos I received were overly aggressive (to the point where they wore out their welcome, lol  )
The hens are absolute angels!!! I have 2 that hunt me down to lay an egg under my feet no matter where I am, like in my ford 250 :lau while it was running!!
There were 5 originally, and all of them eventually fell prey to the hormonal doom attitude.  Those, are hatchery roos now kids :old good sumatras are totally a different story!
.. but I'm just gonna cry on your shoulder, as I so wish I'd kept one roo :barnie :hit   *kicks self, again. lol*

Sounds like you figured this out, but yet another reason people shouldn't buy hatchery garbage. Poor personalities. Not all chickens should be totally docile (actually a nervous flighty bird often makes a longer lived free ranger!) but a good 99% of all human aggressive birds I hear about are from hatcheries. When will people realize to stop supporting these places?

lol yes, there's always a Ton more culling on my part when we get hatchery stock. I just call myself lucky whenever one is close-ish to SOP
