I'mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm BACK!!!!
Holy Moley Batman, whatta trip!
Me and #1 son limited out on the fishing trip.
Was a 1st for me being out on the Pacific. 28 miles out, sun finally burned off the haze and it was a beautiful day out of Westport, Wa.
Crossing the "bar" was an experience. 14 fishers on the boat (mostly one family) and everyone was great and got along very well, share food, drinks and commiserated with the ones that got sick.
Yes, I got sea sick, never have I ever done that, but it happened. It was an experience. (I'll never, ever tease another bout it again. I promise) maybe.![]()
10 sea bass for each of us (about 4lb avg) for a total of 20 fish which were fileted so I now have 40 filets, yumm, yumm.
My big concern was that I could take the physical stress. Turned out it was a piece of cake except for my hands but the cramps that began to occur in my hands when we got back finally eased up in the evening.
My gals blessed me with 12 extra large eggs while I was gone. whoot
No, I'm not going back, just going to cross it off my bucket list.
PS; it's a lot cheaper to buy fresh fish then do this. It's not just for the fish though, it's for the experience and meeting new people on very common ground (hmm, sea)
Hi there. I'm looking for some friendly egg layers. Hopefully a couple different breeds and different colored eggs. My run will be ready in September (gotta wait for my military husband to be home long enough to finish it) and they'll need to get along somewhat with my exotic duck as the ducks will occasionally join then in the run. So I'm looking for advice, recommendations, and people in wa (I'm on Whidbey Island, but I'll drive a good distance to pick up the right chickens) looking to sell. I'm looking for females only to start.
Yes indeed, my little Dorking crowed!
It was pretty feeble though. The first one I thought was some strange bird, but when I went outside and heard it again, I was sure. I know he'll do better as he practices, but it really is funny to hear him now. He has two others with him, one is a girl and one I'm not sure about yet.
The rest are just two weeks old today and tomorrow. Wow are they growing. Some have tails already, and one Marans has the strangest markings. It looks like barring to me, but I didn't think CL had any cuckoos?!?!? There are 14 so I'm hoping to have an even split of pullets to cockerels. Just got to be patient; and the coffee doesn't help

looks like a mix to me....was her name "Sandra"?I am having another issue with some drakes I bought, intending to use them for breeding next year. They are supposed to be purebred Australian Spotted drakes but they are full size ducks, not bantam ducks. Of course I could not tell when they were ducklings. When I got them I was told they came from eggs this woman had bought from someone in Massachussets. Now she says they came from a local woman whose flock I have seen so I know that can't be true. I at first assumed the woman made an honest mistake but now I think that based on her replies (in text messages) it is more likely she is either confused or not being honest with me. I don't know if these drakes are Australian Spotted crosses (this woman does have an Australian Spotted drake she bred with Indian Runners and later I saw a listing for "trout" colored Indian Runners so I wondered if they could have been the crossbred ducks) or if they are an entirely different breed. I want to sell them but I obviously can't sell them for breeding purposes when I can't even identify their breed. I have no idea what I should call them other than drakes. Does anyone have an idea what these drakes might be? They have coloring similar to an Australian Spotted duck so I am inclined to think they are a cross, possibly with Khaki Campbell based on the head color compared to pictures I saw online. A friend suggested I butcher them and I used to butcher Muscovy drakes but it does not seem worth the effort, not to mention that it would upset my daughter since these were raised as pet ducks and not as meat ducks.
Here is a picture I took of one of them with an Australian Spotted drake that is the same age (all are vent sexed drakes in eclipse phase). You can see how much bigger they are and how their head color is wrong. They have gray bills and no white neck ring. Their stance and body shape are also different (consider the fact that the Australian Spotted drake in front looks larger in comparison because he is in the foreground while the drake in the background appears smaller).
Here is a picture I found online that looks like them.

I have read that bleach doesn't kill cocci- ammonia does.I really need some help guys. I have no idea what to do. I have lost nearly all my hatchlings from some kind of illness. I have lost 10 this past week. This is the second time I have incubated my polish frizzle and have had them died. The first hatching they were doing good until I bough some chicks from a lady in hoodsport. All but the older ones I gotten from her that were already outside had died. Then I lost nearly all my first hatch except for about three. I had more eggs from another friend in my bator. I was told it was cocci and that her chicks prob had something or it and infected them all. After the second hatch we had bought a brand new plastic brooder and put them in. My husband took the old wooden one out and bleached everything. Their new brooder, food dishes and everything. Vacumed the carpet and we shampooed it with our Kirby. By all means we should have killed whatever. We keep the babies in our house int he spare room. We also put corid into their water to treat for cocci. The first group did have some blood in their stool so that's what we thought this was. They would get lethargic, slow down, eyes closed and then would just die.
My second group I wanted to prevent this. Only my babies are dying. My older ones outside are fine. I have a few chickens that are laying but I am only getting one to two eggs a day. One I normaly don't keep cause the shell is brittle. I have also been adding shell into their feed to help that. I know a sign in older birds is a drop in eggs, but it has been very hot so I am at a loss. This is our first year with chickens and I am so close to just wanting to give up and not do this anymore. It's sucking our money away and everyone I have talked to is flabbergasted at what this could be. I am already tied to picking up some chickens next week, but at last they are older. Some will not be going into the main herd, but to a separate coop I have built. Anyway, now with this second group its happening again. I have only a couple babies left. I am crying and don't know what to do. I know they are only chickens but I am really regretting doing this. Its the same symptoms with this one. Just I see a little runny poo, they get lethargic, lay down and die. and they would be healthy and running around earlier. Eating and drinking. It's not worms, or anything that I was told by other friends. No other animal gets into the room. We turned the heat lamp off thinking it was being too hot in there. Its a saunas is during the day. I wasn't loosing chicks until after I got those ones from the lady in hoodsport. The eggs I get from my friend, her birds are all healthy and she hasn't lost any like I am. We have the chicks on chick starter. Medicated feed now. The first were not on it s we were told to try medicated starter. I also put a little chick grit in their feed. We stopped treating with corid sense its not helping. Have apple cider vin in their water as well. I have eggs again in my bator that I just put in and a friend hatching me some more. I don't want to cull all the birds we have just in case its whatever. We can't afford that.
