Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

@Bleenie , just thinking - you may want to wait a couple of days. From the pics he looks so distressed, so it might be prudent to let him recover for a bit before another stressor on his system. You have done so much already, and he seems to be getting over everything fast. Just take it slowly. He's a great looking boy!

How is the rooster doing...we haven't gotten an update on him. did you name him?

Diane

Wish I could post more. For some reason I can stalk the forum from work but cannot reply to posts! By the time I get home I forget what I wanted to comment on ... lol

We just moved the chicks to the big girl coop (although we do have a couple of roosters) and it was the funniest thing to watch. They all hopped and flew around. One would start and then the rest would follow, it was crazy. Got lots of happy clucks from them.

On a side note. I talked to the guy at work and asked if he had Java chickens and he said no. They have one all black mutt rooster who must have gotten in with the Barred Rock. So the mystery chicks continue to be mystery's, at least till they get older and even then it will only be a guess.

We've been putting our chicks out in the horse stall to play in the afternoon since it has been warm this week. They run, fly, fight, and take dust baths in the wood pellets. They are hilarious! When it is time to come in the house they are exhausted though. They fall asleep in a big pile before they even get their evening treat (broccoli).

Keep stalking craigslist. I got my hen house (fully insulated), two older layers, and a full bag of feed all for $50. Cheaper than building one for sure! (Plus the hens are adorable and lay about 10 eggs a week still).
GUESS WHAT ! I found a coop on CL this morning. She is asking $75 seeing if I can get it a bit lower as its defiantly not new. .. will be perfect for my two little Silkies !!!!

Crossposting because I'm soo SQUEEEE!!!
Our broody's chicks are hatching today! Day 24. I'd very nearly given up on her.

So far there's this little guy, who looks to be half australorp and half orpington, and there's also one who's all yellow, so probably 100% orpington. Eight more to go!

I have a dog who thinks he is a chick/turkey momma. Even as a young puppy when he would find baby birds he would get my daughter and take her to them. We don't ever leave him alone with them but it makes for some great photo's ;)

Not only am I getting the stink eye from him but also the turkey on the left for bothering their nap!

Hello, I am in Amboy Wa, this is my silkie Marshmallow, and my dog Einstein he loves the baby chicks, he gets excited when i head for the door he runs straight to the pump house and sits there and waits so he can peek into the brooder boxes that some are still in. I seen you post a pic of your pup with babies so I had to share. :)

does anyone have advice for plants I could plant around a duck/goose pond? I was given a whole tote of hostas but with my geese thinking they are goats I am very hesitant about planting them there.

I don't know anything about Hostas even though i have lots but they are away from my livestock and the chickens haven't bothered them BUT, don't know anything about geese…….I can say that i had some frilly hiacynths (spell) and when the sheep accidently got out one ate bunches even though there was lots of other eats and she died. So i would ask and search to make sure what is ok and what is not.

Hi there GertieGoose, welcome to the group, I hope to see you here often.

I'm not a duck or goose person but there are others that are, they will stop by later I'm sure. My chickens will eat Hostas if there's nothing else they like better. What I've found with them is that they seem to have preferences. They devour their favorites and work their way down the list. The trick is to have plenty for them to choose from so they don't eat everything in sight, and rotate them to different areas and give the vegetation a break. As ElizMartin suggested, do your homework so you don't get any sick birds!

I had to google Amboy. You're in the shadow of St Helens. Were you there in '80 when it blew it's stack? That anniversary is just a couple weeks away.
