Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I knit a little bag with six egg sized pockets that I use for gathering. I knit a long handle on it, and put a carabineer on the handle. Then I latch it to my belt loop. Easy breezy no hands needed. So I can do my outside chores with no problem. One hand on my cane, one hand doing the chores, and the eggs all snug and safe until I get inside and put them on the egg skep.
what an awesome idea ! I'll have to make a lil egg purse to do that thanks for the great idea :) I try to avoid going back inside to traverse the strairs until I am ready to go in..that will help bunches :)

So I basically put feed in a tall bucket or glass crock and then fill with enough water to have about 1.5-2" of water above the feed. Then loosely cover it and stir now and then or when I remember.
This blog has pretty straightforward directions.

I hadn't fermented in a while as my first batch of chicks refused to eat it and made a mess. This batch loves it though! And once they got the hang of it, it wasn't messy.
I have found it works well for food the chickens don't particularly like as well. We had some older pigeon feed that was slightly lower on protein content so I thought it would make a good feed for fermenting. I also added some fresh blackberries to it for more sure for the fermentation. The chickens went nuts for it every day.

Are you in Western or Eastern WA? I ask because there is another thread for Eastern WA so you might have luck there if that's your location :)

I have six buttons, free to a good home in Seattle/Tacoma. I also have some eggs incubating. Any babies are also free.

I know, and they are soooooooooooo cute! but sadly I am looking for a few perching quail, who have longer lifespan than coturnix................ your buttons are so fluffing adorable! how long is their life span? I have gone threw 3 coturnix this year, and Im sick of getting attached then them dying

. I cant get chickens, not enough room for them, and they have bad diseases towards quail.
