My Rhode Island Red started laying at 17 weeks, but she is more or less a freak of nature. She was so big by 3 weeks we thought she'd end up crowing instead of laying an egg. She is a good layer now, but her eggs are still on the small side.

The RIR/RIW started at 22 weeks. Her eggs were big from the start and she was a great layer. Unfortunately she became suddenly ill and we lost her at just 9 months old. She was one of our favorite hens. Luckily she has some great babies running around already.
