Exciting. Where did you get your thermometers? I want to grab an extra (or two) before I try again.

I mixed BOSS with some scratch and tossed it on the ground when they came out of the coop in the morning. They loved it, but I think they love almost anything they can scratch up out of the ground!

Tried the vaseline on their combs and wattles for the first time! Three of the four I put it on loved it! My girls are very friendly and hop on my lap when I sit in their run, so I made sure my hands and the vaseline were warm and I gently rubbed it on them while they were on my lap. Three of them didn't want to get off my lap to let the next one have her turn! It was like they were saying, "00hh that feels so good, keep it up!" :) But Roxanne, my Barred Rock, shook her head and tried to get away. My fifth girl, Luna, the Speckled Sussex, was sitting in the nest box, so I didn't want to disturb her. Everyone is looking great this morning. I'll try to get to Luna today.

This morning when I was getting ready to put the chickens in their outdoor run, I noticed some poop that was not at all like chicken poop. Sure enough, I found an opossum sleeping in their outdoor nest. I couldn't get the little critter out of the box. I finally had to pick him put and carry him over to the neighbor's yard. Somehow he crawled in there yesterday while the chickens were out free-ranging. It is so cold that I felt bad moving him, but there is no critter mixing in the coop! Even the cats aren't allowed in there.

Several times a day I take the dogs out to the nestboxes and open them up. I tell them "Find it!" And give them a treat when they alert to an egg. Was walking one of them around the side of the house when she stopped dead in her tracks and alerted to the wood bin! I braced myself for something like our neighbors cat Joffrey having left a maimed bunny or something...

My dog just sniffed out Kiev's secret stash!
She started squatting a few days ago. They were in a small leaf pile behind the wood bin. Hate wasting eggs.
Gonna keep the girls locked up til afternoon for a few days.
