Welcome to the thread! Adorable fuzzy babies! What breeds have you got there?

I'm planning on feeding Scratch and Peck Feeds (organic/nongmo) - locally grown and milled in the Pac NW. www.scratchandpeck.com I mention them because the gals at our local store were telling me about it and explaining that it is not finely ground - the pieces actually look like the grains they are. Of course, they have a full line, so I'm sure the chick starter is milled a bit finer.

I'm going to check this out. One of the reasons I haven't picked up any chicks yet (other than lack of a safe place for them) is because I need to find reliable organic sources for feed that, fingers crossed, isn't to expensive. I also need to read up on organic information. I raise mealworms for my reptiles that right now are on wheat bran not labeled organic. I need to fix that soon.

My girls love the Scratch and Peck stuff. It's a little more expensive, but not outrageously so. I first found it at Bay Hay on Bainbridge, but it's a couple dollars cheaper and a few miles closer to me at the local Cennex.

How much does it typically go for compared to the Purina or store stuff? It's been about oh, five years since the last time I bought layer pellets lol

2x 40 pound bags came to about 63$ with tax if I recall correctly.

I bought a different brand at DriveThruFeed (I think it was X-Cel?) which was about 25$ a bag.. Ingredients were OK, but I didn't like the quality of the pellets. There was a LOT of powder.

Unsure how that compares to other brands.

We have the X-cel mill not even 15 minutes away from me. I didn't think it was organic though.

Just saying hello from Puyallup! We are newbies but learning quickly and having loads of fun with our girls. We are in a residential situation with (somewhat) stealth chickens. 5 in total, 2 layers and 3 week olds. I'm glad I found the WA thread!

LOL stealth chickens! My neighbor has chickens. Even has a rooster! So I've thought about getting three hens just to start out and see how it goes for a bit. I don't know how long we're going to stay in this house so I don't want to build a huge coop just to have to move it.

I like Excel feeds. I wish it were closer!

At my local store, Purina pellets are $19.99 per bag. They have a cheaper brand that is around $18 per bag, and the organic stuff is about $32 for 50 pounds.
