Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: I was also going to ask how old they are. My 9 week old babies are still in the pool in the family room. I want to start leaving them outside, but it has been below freezing all week. Right now it is 48, so I'm hoping it stays warm this weekend and they can start going out at night.

Today I got the first egg from my 22 week old pullets. One of the 17 week olds did the squat when I tried to pick her up. They are getting red faces so it can't be too long.

I keep wanting to go down to the coop to make sure the babies are OK as well.. But so far mamma has been doing everything by the book, so I have to tell myself to leave them alone :)

This evening I got to watch them take their first drinks of water. Soon all 4 were slurping away, with 2 of them standing knee high right in the dish! Quite an amazing sight witnessing them learn so quickly.

Right now mamma isn't leaving the nest... How long typically, before they start moving around the coop and/or adventuring outside?

Chickielady, LOL she's a Jack Russell Terrier or Parsons Terrier. Claire is afraid she'll get sick or worse bitten. We got it sealed up! I'll try the pie plate idea but there isn't much room. We're almost done with the Brooder and run just a few adjustments and I missed some spots while painting. It bothers me not the girls. Soon we'll be working on the coop again! I hope...

Yeah I want them to be outside but I worry about it being cold out there. I have super young ones in the brooder where they were now. I know I should've waited. I'll probably end up bringing them in anyway

It was 38 this morning...warmer than earlier this week, but still to cold to put the kids out. Tomorrow we'll try to leave them out all day and perhaps free range with the larger pullets.

It's supposed to be pretty warm today, I'm going to let my girls out in the run for a little while for some excersize. We'll see how they like it.

I'll let mine out later, but unfortunately I had to leave for work at 6:00 and it was too cold.  LOL  Take some pics.
