Cathe Friedman work out again.....................kicking my fanny good this morning !
I was up & weight lifting at 5 a.m. and the 2 cats (running up & down the stairs like a herd of cattle) and I (lifting weights & doing aerobics upstairs) probably kept Einstein awake downstairs..................

He won't give up, though !
He'll lie in bed for hours while we make noise, rather than get up !

Oh well....

Your Einstein sounds about like mine. When I'm in the kitchen cutting up veggies for the chickens, he'll lay in bed and complain that it sounds like gunfire. However, he won't get up or help do anything. Even after he does get up, he's completely non-functional until he's had a half a pot of coffee.

0hh I want some :)
Territorial is selling them now. I got mine from a nursery in SoCal.
They really are a pain, they hate moisture & heat. They are also a tasty snack for gophers, squirres & chipmunks, not to mention mice & rats.
I had mine in raised wooden beds, covered by screwed down hardware wire, other wise rodents eat them all !
Plant in cool fall, and they bloom right away (if mature) around November...then leaves grow all winter & they die back in spring, where as I'd dig them up & store them.
The hard part was the stamens had to be harvested, so wire had to be unscrewed, and the stamen plucked , wire screwed back down, this every day.
Then the stamens dried on a paper towel & when dry it is like a small red hair...you need tons to do any good !

I got more stuff going on in my garden than anything, feeding the goosefoot to the chickens, they really like it ;)
I'm glad I saw some of the ladybugs I released the other day out there... When I put them out they just scattered and didn't even eat any aphids >_> I was upset...

I'm not sure what it is about sugar snap peas that seems to attract every living bug creature around... Luckily the hover fly larvae seem to enjoy eating the aphids even if the ladybugs don't... They just aren't as cute ;(

Well, things are just jumping around here ! Where is everyone ?
I'm in the kitchen making two and a half gallons of salt-free (home-grown) chicken chili for my husband.
He had a heart attack and emergency triple bypass three months ago. Between that and the diabetes, he's now on some pretty steep diet restrictions. And he complains about the low salt canned chili I had him try. This stuff will be healthier, tastier, and cheaper!

Exactly, and sometimes, if the bird is very young, it can be very difficult if not impossible to tell....if you have any other Light Brahmas, you could compare 1) Shanks, a male at this age has much thicker shanks
2) the 3 rows of peas in a pea comb breed...
3) Emerging hackle feathers would look like pointy-thin feathers coming in , in the bird's cape (neck) and saddle (lower back towards the tail base) and females do not have hackle feathers.
Sometimes you have to pick up the bird in question & dig into the area to see emerging hackle...

OK..so I really looked at the comb and all I can tell is there is for sure 1 row lol. It is pretty wide at the top, could be three rows.
As for the hackle feathers? I do know he/she is the only one that raises her neck feathers when bothered.
Really thick legs too. I guess I'll know for sure when I get a crow or an egg!

My broody momma have started hatching- I decided to let my 2 frizzle hens hatch their remaining eggs 3 since the one esp has insisted on hatching air-

They both decided to plant themselves in 1 box and hatch out the eggs, the one with her bare back she was the only one available for a while, now Winchesters being going solo. I guess the 2 worked it out that 1 momma has the 2 chicks while the other finishes hatching the remaining egg- lol

My other broody momma my Lavender Optingtons been sitting on a couple who have just started hatching- daddy I was worried didn't have the LAV gene as 2 only hatched chicks came out black, but I know I can get both split and LAV out of a Split parent, just wasn't sure if he still carried the gene. The first lil baby to hatch popped out being LAV - so momma still has 6 to go and I have 12 in incubator to hatch in few more days- boy I hope I don't get all roosters and hoping for some with fluffy feet

Super stoked
