Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I've been told it's technically an EE
Actually, it would still lay a very nice blue egg.

BUT, an Am or Araucana
************Bred to a light brown layer, you'd get light green eggs = EE
************Bred to a dark brown layer, you'd get OEs
Such as a BCM----, so the blue egg is coated with dark brown pigment, making it olive green.
so definition of an Easter Egger is an Am or Araucana bred to a light brown layer, such as an Orpington.
EEs lay a minty green egg.
This is due to the blue egg coated with light brown pigment.

Interestingly, the brown in EEs and OEs can quite often be washed off, exposing the blue underneath. The EE or OE egg, cracked open, reveals the interior of the egg is beautiful blue, as the Ameraucana & Araucana makes an egg in which the blue pigment is through & through the egg's calcium, whereas the EE & OEs are blue eggs, coated on the outside with various shades of brown.
Dark egg layers (like Marans) lay basically a white egg (through & through) and as the egg travels down the vaginal canal, it is coated with degrees of brown according to the hen's breed.
Hope this helps.
