Does anyone here in Washington raising Bielefelders? I really want to get about 7 of them, six pullets and one cockerel. I don't want to order all the way from Florida (Greenfire). There is someone who has them in California and I'm okay with getting them from that distance but it would be great if there was someone here in Washington!

Hi there! I'm fairly new to BYC. Does anyone know of breeders of Ameraucana, black copper marans (that lay DARK eggs), or cream crested legbars in Washington? I live in Brush Prairie which is in southern Wa. Any leads would be appreciated! Thank you!

Instead of reposting today's nightmare, if you all would like, you can go read my thread about the owl IN my coop today! I'm still shaking!

You may want to change the saying in your signature line to read:

"To raise chickens, you must think like a predator in order to keep them safe"

It's true.
The owl is smart & will return.
You really need a fully enclosed "no-dig & no-climb" pen around your coop...or the owl will just keep coming back.

We have big owls with barring, known as (seriously) Hoot Owls, of all the weird names....

Most of my coops are surrounded by no dig/no climb fencing, and covered in bird netting, but not all of them are covered.
Apparently, if every-other pen is covered, it is enough to spook the birds of prey.

They are terrified of entanglement & capture.
Sometimes running survey ribbon over the top of your head, around the coop area (as if you have sides) works really well.
They may not figure out they can swoop under the survey tape....
I just had a friend come by who got to her coop a little late, too.
She has no perimeter fence either, but boats the bullit-proof coop!
Unfortunately, she looses 5-12 hens a year from being too late to close & lock the door, and racoons & owls get her birds every time.
Still she comes over to buy more hens from me.
I will not sell her anymore.
She just allows them to be slaughtered and simply wants me to sell her more...and she expects to pay $10 each.
No more!
I sold her the first ones as started birds, 4 mo old, 4 years ago, and she has come back for more (expecting the same price) every year since.

I hope you get the problem fixed & do not loose any of your birds !
