The nucs were in cardboard boxes, so the bees were able to get in and out of a gap... I wish I would have known that before I drove three hours to pick them up and had to drive home wit a butt ton of loose bees in my jeep with me! My bees are several hundred yards away on the other side of the house, so I THINK that these were just loose bees from his nuc. It sat there overnight and then until about noon when he picked it up. There was a small swarm there for several days after, but I wasn't sure if my hive would see them as intruders if I tried to integrate them. Didn't want to scare mine away when I just got them by making them think there were intruders lol.

deep fried Wisconsin cheese curds in beer batter, all beef hotdogs and watermelon for deserts.
We all are pretty much tea teetotalers so had to go buy a beer to do this. Have any of you
given watermelon rind to your chickens any time when i was a kid Mom always had us through
them to the chickens.


I am also curious of the 13 barred pullets there are two that are
a much lighter coloring they came from dels/tractor supply
yes they are hatchery birds

The ones that are much lighter are probably male.

Not so sure I am watching them, the combs are no larger than anyone else's
I would be surprised as this is the second season I have bought
from Dels and never had anything but hens.
If they are males I will be trying to home them fast

Yesterday I was at the new Tractor Supply in Enumclaw. They had lots of bee keeping equipment and I had the thought of getting some bees. We live in the mountains though, and I think the bears would be a problem. They do come by a couple times a year and eat all the grubs out of the ant hills in our neighbor's yard.

My chickens love watermelon, too, and cantaloupe. Even the babies devour it.

turns out we have another of the personal size we had bought 2
had one last night, the other one was a bit mushy so I am taking it out
to the crew this morning, them have been out a few hours but have
not been out there myself yet a little slow moving this morning.

Hello from just across the bridge in Astoria!

I was wondering if anyone might be in need of any bantams- particularly bantam roos. I have some extras about, including beardless silkies, cochins, gold neck d'uccle, japanese and one lone blue OEGB cockerel who is very sweet to people. I don't have a pressing need for homes, but I'd like to do some more hatching this year, so I'd like to make some space.

Went out to clean the table we have in there (made from Pallets)
there was a fairly large spread of blood not allot but enough to kinda worry
me, no one is seems injured or down counted heads to be sure.
Checked all feet and toes nothing to say where it came from.

any ideas please

None here around Mossyrock but sounds as though I may have
2 Barred Rocks roos to rid of just not sure yet sorry.

Was the blood dried? If so that will be difficult to locate the injuried and injury.

Watch to see if anyone is being a loner or a little slower than normal.

Maybe also check around the neck..some may stick their neck in too far into something and injuried themselves.

Could also the chicken killed off a small animal like a mouse?

Hope you can lovate the problem.
