Luckily the neighbors on that side like to watch the chickens and I give them free eggs. That never hurts.

So glad you picked the shade!!!! Heat kills. Cold doesn't seem to unless really extreme.Yeah, I picked that spot because it will be shaded in the afternoon sun. Heat killed one of my birds last summer, the other side of the garage has a lot more room but absolutely no shade. The law here says it should be 50 feet from the property line, it's only about 5 feet![]()
Keeps good neighbor relations no doubt easy to tell you giveLuckily the neighbors on that side like to watch the chickens and I give them free eggs. That never hurts.
The geodesic domes we are so fond of we cover withDon't feel too bad for us. This is the first real rain we have had in SW WA. in about 2 weeks. We're doing OK.
It's been an amazing April!
Covered runs are never a bad idea in most of the Northern US! I went to ACE hardware and got a roll of 6 ml plastic and used straps to hold it down. So far, so good.
I had ankle surgery and not fun to spend 5 weeks in a cast. Hope yours goes well. Mine was $10,800The indoors space is a room in our shop that was built as a brooder room. The birds are on wire so the poop falls through for easy cleaning. We still need a gravity feeder and watering system to make the set-up more effortless.
I think my timing is bad. I have been off my feet waiting for surgery to repair my ankle and foot so my husband and daughter are taking over the majority of my work load until I am back on my feet again. What my husband is hearing is more work for him while my goal is more meat for him. He eats alot so it is his need for meat that has me looking into quail. It is not something I have looked into before but then I never thought I would be raising Silkies either.
I actually do! We hatched a white supposed Easter Egger and I don't like white birds. It hatched on Mother's Day. It was my daughter's first solo hatch and it was from some eggs I purchased that were honestly the worst eggs I have ever seen. I had my husband pick them up for me and I had thought a nyone selling hatching eggs would know that pullet eggs and double yolks are not hatching eggs. The best sized ones for hatching were deformed so there were only a few actual hatching eggs in the dozen I bought. I even decided to contact the seller and of course she did not reply so I know she was scamming me with worthless eggs. I really don't want to raise this chick as a reminder that I got scammed.
