My chickens don't like the rain, so they are not happy.

My flock is actually quite happy that the rain is back. They aren't the biggest fans of temps over 65. They prefer things to be damp and overcast, mostly because that's what the weather is like 75% of the year.

My coop is kinda a work in progress.. the mistake was a brown tarp
it gets super hot in there when the sun is out... I think I am going to change it for
a lighter color maybe white it will be a pain to change as we have it well tied
down as long as we do it in good weather don't even have lock the birds up
I ran a pony wall inside with chicken wire attached

I always thought chickens don't like to get wet. Mine don't seem to care. They'll hide under the coop or under bushes but then be out in some pretty heavy rain just looking around for worms.

Our English Orpingtons don't mind a bit if rain because they have so much fluff that makes them pretty waterproof but they will still huddle up in dry places when they are not out foraging and they don't seem thrilled with the rain.

The Silkies should be under cover because they look pathetic when they get wet so we built a canopy over their run to keep it somewhat drier. It is made with recycled cedar fence boards, mainly for protective cover and shade, so it leaks a bit but it keeps them drier than without it. They can also go under their coop, which is in the uncovered part of their enclosure. Still, they run around getting wet and their crests get wetted down so they lose all the beautiful fluffiness when they are wet.

Now our ducks are tail wagging fools when it rains, splashing in puddles and doing happy dances. They seem the happiest when the chickens are most miserable in wet weather. Every winter I think we should just have ducks and no chickens but then when the weather gets nice and we have chicks peeping everywhere I am glad to have chickens. We also eat the Orpington eggs and the occasional duck eggs (mainly what we collect at the beginning of the season before we start hatching).

I was hoping for nice weather this weekend to get out in the yard now that my daughter's musical is over. I have some projects I have been considering but I need help because I have such a hard time balancing on one leg while on pain killer medication.

@penny1960 do you have a picture of your geodisc coop?
This is the finished project
This is my coop before it was put up and covered
I would not use the brown tarp again I will be changing for a white one
it takes a 30 x 30 to cover one needs to be at least 8 ml or better

This is inside with the pony wall chicken wire is attached and run to the second hubs pvc
