Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I saw my surgeon yesterday and he scheduled my surgery for the 19th. That is the same day my daughter gets back from her international choir tour so I will have her home to help me the first few days before she leaves for a horsepack trip. My husband has been so much help while she is gone since he is taking over her daily chores. I will have 3 weeks off my feet following surgery and then I can walk in a boot cast while everything heals the rest of the way. I don't remember how many months it will take before I am out of the boot but at least I will be walking again. It has been almost a year since my initial injury so I am looking forward to finally healing.

This is what my ankle looked like the day I saw my surgeon. It has been almost a year since I first injured it. The red splotches below my ankle are from a cloth bandaid I used to wear the walking cast, even though I can't walk in it until after surgery. The skin sores are mostly healed so as long as the last two sores below my ankle (only one is on the incision line) don't flare up again I should be good to go. I only get the sores from wearing an ankle support and then swelling into it but my ankle swells up in a short time when it is not elevated and I have to protect my ankle from twisting if I go anywhere. These last two blisters were from watching my daughter's school musical since I went to all 6 shows to support her.

ouch! After surgery find somebody that can do lymphedema treatments for you. It won't ever heal if you don't get the Adema out of there. And they can start it the day of surgery even in the hospital. I think it will really help in the long run and also in the short-term.

My white Plymouth Rock laid an egg today. So I'm not sure if she or my road island red laid the one the other day.
The run is no enlarged to 10' x 20'. Tried to put aviary netting over the top today, what a disaster! Any suggestions on what else to put over the top? It's mostly just to keep the chickens in, it's a 6 foot fence. I lock them in the coop at night. So maybe I don't need anything over-the-top?

When I saw my doctor for the swelling after the injury she prescribed a water pill that is used to treat high blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure so I rarely use it. I pretty much keep my ankle at hip level day and night to keep the swelling down. I know I damaged the veins by using compression to keep my ankle from twisting while I was walking on it but I am hoping the vascular damage will heal in time.

Whenever my ankle and foot swells the skin gets kind of blotchy purple and I get stabbing nerve pain between my big toe and second toe. I am far more comfortable when I can keep it from swelling but as soon as it is down, even at knee level while bent on my knee scooter, it swells up. Hopefully putting everything where it belongs during surgery will fix the problem but I am afraid I could end up with chronic pain and swelling if it does not heal properly.

It feels as if the split tendon may be pinching soft tissue when I try putting weight on it after the last time it twisted and swelled up so I don't even know the extent of the tendon damage yet. He plans to use my other tendon to repair the torn one and then sew them together to support each other so hopefully he will not need to use cadeavor tendon to make the repair.

I will also have a bone spur removed from my heel and he plans to cut the plantars facia to relieve my plantars faciitis. He may cut my calf to loosen it too but he will decide once I am out if that needs to be done because I tense up whenever he touches me due to my PTSD. I am hoping he does not need to make the additional incision and cut because that is just one more thing to heal or potentially go wrong plus I am told it will give me muscle pain for awhile and I could do without more pain added to what I have already. The Tramadol takes off the edge but I still feel pain in my ankle and it drains my energy.

Once the lymphatic system gets backed up it will not heal on its own. Lymphedema treatment is not like wrapping an ace bandage around it. There's much more to it. You need to raise the foot above the heart level, lay flat on your back and have your foot up. The foot needs to be above the knee. Skin sores often happen with lymphedema, but it can all be healed up.

New chickies! We found a local d'anvers breeder and got some self-blue babies. For big chickies, we're going to put those anti-pigeon strips up on our front fence to try and stop any perching/escape ideas.
