Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Well we know what breed a Rock is so there really isn't confusion there.

Want to get into angry people and insistence that the hatchery/feed store is correct? Look at the EE (americana or whatever each one calls them) - Ameraucana and Araucana issue. When my mom was a kid back in the 50s and 60s, Grandma had got hatchery Araucana. They laid nice blue/green eggs. Color was pretty consistent between birds. Mom says they looked nothing like the hatchery birds I have now. The modern hatchery EEs I have are wonderful girls for eggs. Much better than my ameraucana. Even at 5 years old, I'm still getting about 3 eggs a week from each of them (that isn't broody).

I am trying to bring back those original hatchery "Araucanas" that are technically Easter Eggers but not the mutt Easter Eggers. I loved them so much and kept a flock for many years not knowing how impossible they would be to replace when we moved across the state. I am using a Quechua rooster over two hens that I like so it will be fun to see what we get when the chicks are grown.

Right! The Maran/s thing! It's French, people.
I also don't understand why people think that Easter Eggers are Ameraucana or Araucana mixes. Um, no. For that to be true, hatcheries would have to have had true Ameraucana or Araucana at some point, and they never have. Or the whole 'Ameraucana were derived from Araucana,' thing. Again, no. For some reason, people can not grasp the concept that prior to the 1970s, there were no Ameraucana, Araucana, Easter Egger distinctions. They were all just called Araucana, and they all fell into the category of 'Easter Egger' by today's definitions.

I raised the hatchery birds for so many years that I had no idea about all the new breeds that had come about until I picked up some chicks I thought were what I used to raise and ended up getting rid of nearly all of them because they were not what I wanted. If only I had kept mine instead of selling them with the assumption that they would be replaceable!

I hatched a few Marans to know the s is part of the location name and not a plural but that is one alot of people get wrong. Most people are quick to get it but some will never learn.

I still want to know if Lions & Tigers bury their poop in giant cat boxes (in the zoo) can you imagine scooping the litter box ? That reminds me, I been sitting here too long & have poop to scoop myself.  :frow

Large cats are divided into two groups, those that purr and those that roar. Large cats that purr, such as a Mountain Lion or Cougar, behave in ways like house cats but cats that roar do not share many of the behaviors we often attribute to cats because they are so different from our purring small cats.

I had my week follow-up from surgery and I am feeling so good I decided that I don't need prescription pain killer meds anymore. My surgeon told me that my tendon was worse than he had expected because it was "shredded" into about 15 pieces which he sewed together and then sewed what was left of my tendon to the healthy tendon next to it. He took off the bandages and moved my ankle without any popping or pain. I had noticed that I could wiggle my toes without any popping in my ankle but I was pleasantly surprised to be able to move my entire ankle without it popping. Now I just need the muscle spasms to quit and I will be feeling pretty good.

@ Duck Drover
sure am happy to hear of the recovery amazing what can be done
with muscle and tendons now start slow let the toes wiggling be the first
movements no pressure

Great news, congratulations!

Actually that's not the French pronunciation either. It's more like MEH-rone
You can listen in Google Translate here

So if we aren't going to pronounce it as the French actually do, should we really be splitting hairs? And Americans do pronounce Paris with the S.

At least we can spell it correctly, right?
Actually, the breed is named after the town from which it has originated.....which is a town called Marans.

It has no bearing on if you have 1 of these birds, or 100, the town is still the same, and still called Marans.

Like you can go on vacation & visit Marans.

Here is some more:

These birds were named after the town MARANS.................pronouciation is regardless of its spelling.
