Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

State thread are general chat threads for the most part.

If I have anything specific health or breeding wise on birds I post over in that section as well as ask here. And either the search up top or google aite search. Sometimes that is the quickest way because someone else had a problem before.

I'm thinking of just concentrating on my silkies for now and not dealing with ameraucana. Mom was all "Noooo! I like the big blue eggs! Silkie eggs are so small."

I just gave away two nice breeding Silkie roosters to a girl in 4H who has a rooster with too many deductions. Because the boys have been raised together they can stay together and share the ladies. I knew we had another cockerel still inside and it turns out we have two so hopefully I can keep them together in a flock of their own too.

The girl also decided to show ducks so she left with a breeding pair. She wanted them so bad she told her parents she would pay them back but the pair will pay for itself in no time. Her dad was almost as excited about getting the ducks as his daughter so he was already making plans to build a covered run for them.

We did a wing clipping roundup today but one hen flew out of the yard so we have to catch her tomorrow, assuming she has returned to sleep with her flock and does not have a nest somewhere. We are down to one last hen with blood feathers growing in and then everyone will be grounded for awhile. We usually do weekly roundups during and after molting so we catch the flight feathers as soon as the blood recedes but we occasionally get one that flies before getting clipped and they can fly high for a good distance, even though they don't get much chance all year.
