Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

This was Drama Queen's second chance. She's been brooding for about 5 weeks now, and she's getting pretty thin. She wants to sit, but she's really bad at it. And it's time for her to stop, for the sake of her health.
From now on, the only Australorp that is allowed to brood is Little Mamma. She gets a 95% hatch rate every time. And she's a great mother.

I just picked up 5 double Automatic Poultry Feed Water Double Head Drinker Cup

I'm curious to know how these work out. I just bought a premade waterer with 2 cups from Coastal Farm and Ranch and the little yellow toggle has to be pushed too far down and the chickens weren't using it.  Had to go back to the old gravity waterer.  We have an auto waterer we will be installing now that our run is built and it has the nipples. Hoping that works out as planned.  This would have been a nice back up but I think I will return it. Either that or buy replacement cups that work better.

I have been using watering cups for over a year. I found some come faulty and some work great. My girls have had no problems working them even as chicks when I first put them out. I also have a 5 gal bucket with the nipples but except when it;s freezing I really liked the cups. Mine are attached to 10 and 20 gal white buckets with lids. The only extra thing I did is add a washer to the inside of the bucket (back side of the water cup) to hold it in better since the plastic on my buckets are fairly thin. The other thing I realized about the cups is that they come in two bolt/hole sizes so if you buy one set and go back for more later make sure you check the diameter of the drill need instead of assuming

it's the same.

I just put them in a wire cage, elevated off the ground for a few days if they don't snap out of it on their own. Works for even the most determined broodies.
That's what I am planning on doing. It sounded from your post like you were going to shoo her off the nest daily and I wondered if that would work... You have far more experience than I so I was just wondering.

I was thinking it could be just these cups. I may try again in the future but I think these will go back, otherwise I will have $25 into it plus new cups, don't know that it's worth it for this particular waterer.
Thanks!
