Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I didn't even know this group exsisted.New to this thread but my daughter raises silkies for 4h.We live in Vancouver, Wa

I should have pointed it out to you when I gave you the Silkie roosters! I am glad you found it. I try not to wander around BYC too much because it can become time consuming but I do follow along here as much as possible.

Ok question/ opinion time....

Wry tail, genetic or other?

The parent stock of my chicks show no wry tail or any of the 50+ chicks the owner hatched (i personally seen most of them) out of 3 survivors of a disastrous bad hatch( bad temp/humidity and a power outage) 2 chicks are showing wry tail

I would suspect the incubation issues or inbreeding brother to sister. I have seen it in ducks mainly when people inbreed so it could be bad genetics that should never have happened. If you are not inbreeding and had a bad hatch the incubation mishaps are more likely to blame over genetics but time will tell. I had two hatches from an inbred flock that resulted in intestines outside of the body at hatching so it was obvious that it was genetic and not the incubator when everything else in those hatches hatched just fine.

Wait it out. It's pretty difficult to assess the build and tail set of such young chicks. They may grow out of it and be completely normal.

Thank you both for the responses ..looks like we will wait it out and to be sure get more chicks from another source this spring.

Hello, I haven't been around for a while. Here in Walla Walla, a friend of mine is looking for some chicks. She is looking for standard size egg layers. Is there anybody out there around Eastern Washington that has any chicks available right now?

I had an ameraucana cockerel who looked like he had wry tail for about 3 weeks somewhere around the 8 week old mark. He didn't look like it before and it went away. My guess is stuff was just growing at an odd rate

I am kinda standing excited to tell what my first hatch turns out?
a old friend is moving out here to Riffe Lake and intends to get birds from me
so my new hatch that is to happen is spoken for
