Hello, and Welcome. Do you have chickens now, or are you just getting ready. You'll find lots of advice and opinions on BYC, whether you want it or not! lol

Well I managed to process that beautiful cockerel on Thursday after all. When the sun came out it was almost warm with the sun on my back. Sad to see such a lovely bird go to freezer camp, but that's the was it goes some times. He'll be greatly appreciated as chicken and noodles however. He dressed out at 3.5 pounds which was not bad, but he looked to be bigger than that. I guess all those big boy feathers added a lot of bulk. It's certainly quieter here now. And the hens are calmer again. And I'm calmer now too. Funny how waiting to get things taken care of can weigh on a person.

I should obviously dust more often!

I have had a large debate going on inside thinking of Blue finally becoming stew.
There will be offspring of his that could be used later but if he was gone it would give my girls
a big break maybe pickup a Marans cockerel to raise after he was gone

Just separate him from the girls.

We saw a coyote less than a mile from our house last night on our way home from a movie. It was in a residential area running on the side of the road so that was a bit of a surprise. I am glad we have our LGD to protect the flock. My husband is finally understanding that she is an outdoor working dog. I got her license and microchip just in case she runs off chasing after something but she has been doing a great job staying in the yard. She will bark at times but not non-stop so I think she is just doing her job.

So it seems my husband gets a bit upset if I just go out and split wood, whether he is home or not. The rack was almost empty inside and needed filled so I filled it. Now he's mad at me and basically said I accused him of being lazy by not saying anything and just doing it.

Makes me want to pull my hair out. It's just easier for me to do it and I don't hurt my back like him. He's not used to the lifting and bending movements. You know, the same movements I do every day with chicken food and water for 5 pens. So nothing wrong with me just doing it and saving him some pain.
