Leigti: These are two of my Welsummers I hatched out in November I bought an incubator and wanted to give it a try. I got a lucky grab on the eggs out of the coop as these both turned out to be pullits

Upper left & one in the bottom photo look like girls.cannot really see the upper right one's back....unfold the wings & see how many rows of flight feathers they have.

@Knoble Chickens it must be a mental thing that you don't want fertile eggs to eat but if you came to me for eggs
how would you know if they weren't or were ?

I am not going to pick on him anymore...he has his reasons.
I assume they do not want a rooster because it makes the "egg meat" and from the grocery store you never get eggs with "egg meat" cuz the candle & remove them all.
ALOT of folks think the occasional "egg meat" or blood spot is a developing embryo & it grosses them out.
When in truth, egg meat happens to hens wether they have a rooster or not.

There are only two chicks total in the two pictures I posted them for Leigti so she could see what Welsummer girls looked like as chicks.

Check out Meyer hatchery. They are sold out of Black Copper pullets for the season, but they still have a Marans assortment with a bunch of varieties still available with a bunch of dates for sexed pullets. Cackle still has sexed Black Coppers available. Both hatcheries do small orders.

yup, that can happen...
If the egg travels down to the uterus & then for some reason goes back up....it gets another egg plastered on to it & goes back down again to get another shell applied.

I have had hens lay a few really oddball eggs...soft shelled & one twisted in a knot....I'll see if I can find the photo...





There was a thin rubbery membrane over the entire egg, twisted at the rear & holding the start of the next egg...I peeled off the rubbery membrane & there was a perfectlt fine egg inside.
I have never seen any other egg like this...ever again.
