The newest member of the family, Cayenne, a 9-month old Cattle Dog. She's spent most of her life at the shelter due to being completely deaf.

This is how it looked on Friday. We were at the Wild Horses turn out. The picture below is on the Vantage Bridge. It felt like someone was sitting on your chest. The air quality was terrible.

I wonder if anyone else has noticed a lack of hawks around. After the cold snowy winter I haven't seen but one hawk all year and no owls either, in years past I couldn't let my chickens out without being with them or they would have been killed starting this spring no problem I let them out every morning and they are out all day. There is an explosion of mice, rabbits and quail as well.

Yeah. Not many hawks this year. The eagles aren't usually here right now because the pond is covered with lilies so they can't duck hunt.

I pay off some ravens with eggs to act as security and keep the chicks penned. I've only seen them chase off one hawk this year.

Hawks were plentiful this spring, most have migrated now. Lost a few chicks to a Peregrine Falcon mid-spring. Hearing lots of owls at night lately. And eagles are everywhere. Several breeding pairs within a 1/4 mile radius.

I had a bunch of owls here last year even a mother with a young one in the front yard would here lots at night this year nothing.
