I have read here somewhere that you need to let it set at least 24hrs or it will be tough!Let a bird set like three days in the fridge before getting cooked. Get much better flavor.!
I am learning so much thanks!!You can cook same day if you butcher and cook immediately before it gets stiff. That's how chicken used to be done a hundred or so years ago. Chicken was a rare treat back then. Usually only for Sunday dinner or special guests.
I usually section the bird before putting in fridge to rest. Usually a sectioned bird will fit just fine in a gallon freezer bag. That way I can freeze extras easily once rest time has past. Back and neck make good stock. I use a knife and a pair of pruning shears that are kept just for that purpose.
Well I never thought of anyone eating a silkie I don't know why just fiqured there wouldn't be much there, I know they have black skin what color is the meat??Non broiler chickens also have actual texture to their meat. I still find modern commercial chicken kind of odd in it's lack of texture.
Oh and no, silkies don't taste any different than an ameraucana if they have been fed the same way. I've blind taste tested people on it because they can't get over the silkie meat color.

That is so interesting! I had no ideaDark grey. Bones also are.
One silkie cockerel is plenty to make dinner for 2 people, usually with leftovers for us.
They are bigger than pheasants and I ate plenty of those growing up. I've had quail, too, and thats serama size.
I don't butcher until they are at least 9 months old and actually gaining muscle. So there won't be any frying anyway. Usually it's soup of some sort. Shredded chicken tacos works well, too.
We did get there was a warm afternoon! I keep a bunch of water stations around the property as well so they have access in many places you are right cant be to safe!!!Made it to 78 here. Chickens have 7 water stations. One can never be to safe.
