Roosters sometimes get named here. Very rarely does a hen. Usually my best broodies if I do

Tilled once this morning. Second till right now. Can't go farther in. Too soggy. Was really too soggy close to the fence line Im standing at but was only a couple feet. Just was getting highest spot so I can put up greenhouse and plant. I can move that thing around.

Are yours going to be dual purpose? I wouldn't name mine if I intended to cull them in a couple years for soup. I know people do that and it is a self sustaining farm idea. I just get too attached to the little darlings. Realized early on I would never be able to do that.

Yep, dual purpose has always been the plan, but time will tell if I'll be able to follow through.

Hey never named any of mine either was taught early.

The rooster gets a name sure he is Fred flinstone.
By the way 8 eggs in the incubator now from today.
5 in the fridge.

I eat extra roosters. Its the really friendly ones who will be kept anyway that get names. Even the knucklehead who isn't doing his job to make eggs fertile. He's super friendly and I'd give him to a pet home if I get asked for another again

There were a bunch of muddy raccoon paw prints on the sliding door of the coop this morning, and it was a big one because of how high the prints were. Too close for comfort.

I just set up my box trap, bagels soaked with honey for bait. Now that it's going after my chickens I don't want to take a chance on having it rip through the hardware cloth to get to them.

Neighbor that did the yard king mower said they we had coyotes run the road last night.
I have heard the song but never seen one close.
8 foot fence here secured at the bottom plus 4 dogs in the yard.
