Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My neighbor gave me a half pint jar of tuna she canned and it was nothing like store bought. Very firm and not mushy, filled with water. Tasty too.

Grandkids left a couple hours ago and relaxing. My teenager chickens have started eating eggs, I think, and that's not a good thing.
Afriend of mine went fishing for tuna years back, and when he came home with 350# of fillers, he made me a deal to can it for half of it. Best tuna (albacore) we ever ate. My brother does the same with yellowfin tuna if he has an overabundance.

I admit I eat the rockfish we get at Costco fresh even though I cut it up meal size then freeze it.
I like prawns I do eat them breaded.
That is about the fish for me when I have been handed like salmon or such I cook it for guys do not eat myself.
Living in Juneau all those years loved crab we brought in fed the halibut to the dogs. Did eat the salmon.
Halibut is only edible if you catch the chicken size or small under say like 20 pounds. Everyone wanted the 65 pounders.

Yes on both those, though moisture is also a factor - aspergillus is a type of fungus that's deadly to chickens but it mostly grows on fresh/green wood, so again the aging and drying of chips aids in combating that.

Most molds in wood are fine and expected, like the bottom of my chip pile definitely looks pretty "rotted" after sitting there for years, yet is safe for use around the chickens.
Yeah it was pretty wild I was moving some of the chips today for a deep weed squashing project and the middle of the pile was already in full "hot compost" swing! Very cool. Thanks for all the follow ups and explanation. Feeling confident about my plan for the chips and chickens moving forward! Still need to source something lighter for the coop though, I’ve for 3 giant bags of hemp that will last the rest of the year at least. So that’s tomorrow’s problem. Hope everyone’s enjoying this incredible sunshine!

Garden and chickens have been my life these days and I couldn’t ask for anything better!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the thread! I'm from a tiny town in the PNW of Washington state. Colville to be exact 😊. I have 4 beautiful Rhode island reds hens. No roosters. 2 dogs ( well more like humans) 2 grand daughters and the man. I love hunting, fishing camping and hiking. I have a bakery that does custom berries and other treats. But for the most part it is me and the girls ( they are my happy place) . 2 that are laying everyday 1 who had a lash egg ( been raising chickens for years and never had or seen one before) she no longer lays eggs but is fat ( to me) and sassy (3.4 lbs) 1 that is broody who I cannot break for the life me, ezzy is small losing weight ( going to worm this week, and up protein intake I guess 16% layer crumbles isn't good enough) and lou lou she just sassy 😉.
