Chickens did well today and gave me three eggs. So I had scrambled eggs with cheese on bread for lunch.

I picked most of the garlic scapes today. Some are for the rabbit I'm cooking later, the rest I made into a pint of garlic scape pickles.

I think I got my rabbit recipe figured out, and a lot of the ingredients are from the garden.

that pesky rabbit
1.5 pints tomato sauce
1 cup chives
garlic scapes
whole radishes
1/4 cup olive oil
2 Tbs lemon juice
1 cup chicken stock (or enough to barely cover rabbit)
oregano
thyme
tarragon
lemon balm
salt
cracked black pepper

brown rabbit pieces in Dutch oven
cover with all the other stuff
braise slow for a few hours

rice on the side

This is a very karmic meal bunny went from having a feast to being the feast! Looks delicious too.

We just went on an epic fencing rampage to protect our new garden from the resident deer. Literally slapped it up in a night! Will tweak on the weekend and install gate etc. I was naive to think they would leave it alone with all the wild things they can eat in my “gully” zone. Nope, straight for the nightshades and sunflowers! Love to see the wild critters but that garden is too much work to only feed the 4 legged families.

Now rabbit is the only meat that reminds me of store bought chicken on taste.

You can also pass rabbit thighs off as chicken thighs

My pepper/bean/tomato plot is almost deer proofed. I got all the chicken wire up today and hung the door (with wire). I still need to attach the lightweight deer mesh to the tops of all the posts so the fence will end up being 8 and a half feet tall.

I saw the first baby fawn of the year yesterday evening, and it must've just been born. It was still unsteady on it's legs, kind of wobbling around. Mama was showing it where my garden was, but luckily I had the bean sprouts covered with floating row cover. LOL
Seems kind of late for fawns to be born.

We decided the little trees that the tree out front seeded
are getting tilled.

Sitting here with my mcmuffin too. Second cup of coffee though. Mike brought home a truckload of mulch that we will spread around a few free standing trees in the front yard. That's a big enough job for me for one day! Making an easy dinner of tri tips and baked pots tonight. We get the prime tri tips at Costco and fry them in an iron skillet like a steak. So good. No one here wants to start up the grill, even though it has a propane option. Iron skillet does okay.

I was out watering the garden around 6:30 this morning then continued working on the deer fence. I got lumber fitted around the base of the chicken wire and the rope strung around the top of the posts, which the deer mesh will hang from. Waiting on a Walmart delivery that includes zip ties, that I'll need to hang the deer mesh.

I think I'll only be able to get 14 or 15 tomato plants in by the peppers and beans. Not sure if I have the room in the raised beds to plant the rest of them.

Bought the egg rounds many years ago.
The Son wanted to buy same from Jimmy Dean.
So showed him to do them by himself.
To me it better than what to buy ours have fresh eggs.
