Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Why is it always rain in the forecast when I’m painting? Trying to prime the wood for our coop and it started an hour earlier than predicted!

On the upside, we have the bullseye primer on all the run frame done, and half of the siding for the outside of the coop! The interior plywood panels I threw a tarp over for now.

Yes; our yard is small. The run is 5x10, the coop is built into it and is 3x5 (and three feet off the ground).

Building it around the tree is an additional struggle. We can’t bury the hardware cloth because magnolias have root systems near the surface, so we will have to settle for a skirt. And an auto door, as well as locking up the food and water at night. We have a raccoon the size of a small dog in our neighborhood, as well as a coyote and more rats than I care to think about.

It's a beautiful morning! Oh, I know it's overcast, but I have a new refrigerator coming! Yay! I've been saying we need one for a couple years now. This one is over 20 years old. DH keeps fixing it, but at some point it seems I can just have a new one. This one is a side by side, but the new one is french doors. I think I will love it.

And the best news is, they are delivering the new and hauling out the old.

I know. No one cares much about my refrigerator. But, it's the little things in life that get me excited. :ya And I just had to share it with someone. 😁

Hey, I got a little excited when I got my new refrigerator a few weeks ago, so you're not alone. What's the difference between side by side, and French doors?

I had to do some chicken wrangling last night to get them all into the coop and secure run last night but finally got it done. The little chicks ended up sleeping locked in the coop, but the big girls' section. The big girls and teenagers had to sleep in the run. It must've went ok because I didn't hear much squawking or fighting over roost location.

I switched things around yesterday afternoon. I let the big girls out to forage and let the teenagers and chicks mingle for a few hours. They did ok, not as much pecking as I envisioned.

This morning they are all together, separate in their own little groups. But the little chicks were drinking water alongside one of the hens, so they're figuring things out.

A side by side is freezer on one side and refrigerator on the other. French doors are two doors opening the refrigerator section, taking the whole top portion, with a crisper draw beneath, and below that is the freezer. I always thought they made a mistake moving the freezer up. The refrigerator is what we get into all the time.

Good work with the chicks. It sounds like they are integrating well now. It's always good when the whole flock is together. Easier for us, anyway.

I thought those were just called bottom freezer refrigerators.

Still no chicken fights. The little ones were given the area under the coop in the day run. The rest can go anywhere they want. LOL. Tonight will be interesting, seeing if the chicks go back into the coop to roost. They'll have to go inside today if they want to eat, because that's where the food is.

Not exactly. Looks like this:

But, yes. Freezer on the bottom. I like it that way.
Very nice! I keep a medium size chest freezer in the house for long term storage stuff. Fridge freezer is for often-used items. The crisper drawers in my new fridge are lower than in the previous fridge.

I've considered building a short pedastal to put the fridge on since there's room above, but I probably won't. I try to look at getting veggies out of the drawer as a type of forced exercise. LOL
