Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I'm planning out how to build exterior nest boxes for the chickens. I'll have to cut holes through the hardward cloth of the secure run, which I've really been hesitant about doing but it's the only way so I'll do it.

I have the little chicks with the old barred rocks today, and the New Hampshires are set up in the secure run. I believe that's how things will be for a while because the teenagers are still being aggressive jerks toward the chicks.

Watered the zucchinis, cukes and some tomatoes with the drip irrigation setup. It works really well.

Morning all up late for me 9 startled myself.
Richard waited for me to bring coffee.
Nice looking young man gives him his bed baths.
He will come back tomorrow now.
Late up by me, Richard just had his breakfast.
Glad you're getting some help there.

I accidentally decapitated one of my New Hampshire chickens last Thursday. The rope holding up the sliding coop door slipped out of my hand and the door fell on the chicken's neck, right behind its head, so it was quick and painless for the chicken. Not so painless for me because it was my favorite NH but I'm over it now. Just need to be more careful with the door. And I still have 6 NHs left.

I'm braising it now with onions, garlic, olive oil, tomatoes and herbs. It had a lot of meat for being a 13 week old production layer, probably a good 3 pounds dressed (skinned out).

Sorry about your pullet but at least you're making the best of it.

Thanks for the sympathy. It's something I'll have to get comfortable with doing if my plan for keeping a sustainable meat chicken flock comes to fruition.

I picked the first two zucchinis that bloomed today and put them into the pot with the chicken. I think it's going to be tasty.

I have almost quit cooking what Richard use to like,
breads or crusts.
I did Hamburger crumbled with taco seasoning, sour cream and a garlic spinach dip I took him some surprise he ate it.
With tortilla chips? Sounds good.

Days are slowly getting shorter so it's easier to stay awake long enough to let the chickens go into the coop at night before I lock them up.
