Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I thought that the teenagers could use some distraction so I let them out of the run into the big wide world to see something new and to try their hands at foraging. I have the young chicks locked up in the coop/secure run area right now getting used to it. I gave them a bowl of wetted down feed to gorge on since they probably had a hard time accessing the feed all day.

When it gets close to dark I'm hoping that the littles will be already in place on their roosts so I can open the door and let the New Hampshires and the Barred Rocks back in from their adventure.

Maybe exploring the great outdoors will cause the teenagers to realize that there's more to life than picking on their little flockmates.

I think they're enjoying their first taste of fresh grass and possibly bugs.

All ten chickens made it back into the run and they're locked up safe for the night. But one of them is kind of stupid. It watched the others go through the doorway but it wouldn't, and just kept running around like it didn't know what to do. Finally, she jumped through the doorway and made it back home.

Tomorrow I'm going to leave them all confined to the coop and secure run so the littles can figure out how to manage living in that space with the bigger girls. I made sure that they have several places to get out of sight and hide when they get chased by the meanies.

I had to holler at my next door neighbor. He was burning branches in his grill to get rid of them and smoking me out. Had to close my windows to keep the smoke out. It's all good, no hard feelings.

I told him before he can just throw that kind of stuff in the woods behind my house instead of burning it. Maybe he will do that next time.

Wow I sure hope he scares them good.
Just finished my breakfast my version of mc muffin.
Richard is still with us, his male bath giver will be here pretty quick.
Hey all did your power blink ours did about 3 minutes.

The chickens are getting along a little better today, but there's still a little fighting. And I watched one of the old barred rock ladies pull some butt feather off one of the little cockerels.

All the mean pullets and hens will get their payback when the cockerels' hormones start raging. LOL

I did some work to one of the bean trellises so the bean vines have more room to travel. If they grow high enough they can start traveling along the ropes at the top of the deer fence.

While I was out messing around I decided to give the chickens another roost bar. It's temporary, and might make it easier for all the chickens to just get along with each other. A few nails and a 2x4 is all it took.

The coop is wide open to the secure run 24/7 during the warmer part of the year. I partially close it off in the cold of winter so the new roost will have to come down then.
