Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I set the drip watering around the squash and tomatoes to run for 90 minutes. It ran for maybe an hour and the well ran dry. I waited a half hour and the water in the well replenished so I have water again now.

Seems like the ground water level drops in the summer, and I think my old well needs to be cleaned out or something. It's always been slow to refill if I use a lot of water.

Pullet Eggs!!!!

IMG_6284.JPG

They're just over 19 weeks old now which I think is good. My barred rock hens started laying around 14 weeks old which is too soon, and they had lots of reproductive issues. Hopefully these New Hampshires weren't bred to be super egg laying machines and don't have the same problems.

Dang, those eggs are cute. I'm having them for supper with some fried zucchini slices. I bet the yolks are a nice deep orange because they've all been out to forage a lot lately.

And I know they're not fertile, but that should be happening soon. The cockerels' voices have changed and they're starting to act a little roostery. I'm going to hatch some out as soon as I think they're fertile.
