Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Good morning, errr, afternoon. Didn't get good sleep last night because my shoulder kept hurting and waking me up.

I picked a couple pounds of green beans from the vines, got a single pullet egg, a jalapeno pepper and a tiny orange habanero pepper.

Like a fool I popped the entire habanero in my mouth and chewed it up. It wasn't bad initially but the heat kept building and building. Wow, it was hot and I still feel it. I didn't expect a Washington grown habanero to be that hot, but it was. Nice thing is that it had that fruity flavor that I was wanting as an addition to some of my salsa jars.

I might try canning some dilly beans. I guess that's a thing, isn't it? I picked rattlesnake and Blue Lake beans.

I put all of the straightest green beans in a freezer bag and into the freezer, about a half gallon. Not washed, not blanched either. From last year's experiment I learned that unblanched beans were just as good as the ones I blanched when cooked. But my tongue isn't refined so YMMV. LOL.

Dang deer started eating the nice tomato plant I have growing on the front porch. I made it more difficult for them to do damage by moving the self watering setup to the other side.

I still need to add some type of barrier because I expect the deer will now walk up the steps to get to the plant.

You've been busy as usual. Darn deer. They have a whole forest but they come for our personal stash. Here they even eat the bird seed I put out for the doves.

Yeah, but I was asking for it. Actually a few days ago I was wondering if they'd start eating that plant.

They always seem to go for the garden mid to late summer, when I guess the native options aren't as readily available. Not much juicy green stuff in the woods this time of year.
