Renee, the not-quite-white, very light cream eggs are called "tinted". I think that might sit better with CR than white.

I just posted in the new members section and was told to come here too.

Briefly: new to having chickens (new to country life for that matter). Bought a house near Yacolt, WA in July. Loving it! Learning how to care for the chickens we inherited with the property. Hoping to learn lots more on these forums. Slightly overwhelmed too. :)

Welcome!

If you can't keep up, just jump in where you are and read from there.

Hrm, I'm thinking that the gold laced Wyandotte chicks as a batch just aren't very robust. I lost a second one today. It looked completely healthy - butt was clean and dry, eyes were clear, feathers looked great, and a little food in the crop. It didn't seem skinny either. It was just lying in the shavings on the floor. Maybe one of the ones trying to fly landed on it, who knows. But looking at the two remaining GLW, they are smaller and more fuzzy than the 4 chicks from Baxter Barn that are a week younger.

Guess it's a good thing I haven't named any of the GLW yet.

Other than Gimp, the 2 GLW are the only chicks I have lost.

I'm so excited, I just ordered the last available quarter of beef from a farm of grass fed cattle in Ellensburg. Can't wait to get it! Should be done by the end of the month

He delivers to the wet side too!
Stumpfarmer sells great grass fed beef right here on the wet side, in Lacey area.

How sad. I'm sorry.

My little spunkies are trying to fly, too. The other day Latte was completely flattened to the ground by Cocoa landing right on top of her. It scared me. Their brooder is currently one of those large Rubbermaid deck boxes with the top removed - the thing is huge and it has to be at least two-and-a-half feet tall. Latte is trying her best to fly up to the edge of it. She's getting pretty close. When DH wakes up from a nap, we'll be building a top for it out of hardware cloth and wood. If not, I might walk in and discover a chick or two roosting on the edge of it.

Yeah, I'm expecting to go downstairs and find free range chicks wandering around any day now. They are mostly trying to get to me for worms, I think. While I was sitting on the futon next to the brooder, Tikka kept trying to get to me and once nearly made it! Very surprising to have a chick pop over the edge right next to me, scrabble a bit and tumble back inside.

I'm going to post some pics of my chicks, including the two hatchery SFs that I have. One is very obviously a pullet, not sure on the other.
