Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Here are my chicks, although I lost one of the GLW today:

The Wyandottes. Jerk looks humongous next to the others. Tandoori is hiding behind Jerk's big head in the pic.

Tikka, a speckled Sussex:

Masala, the other speckled Sussex (who is growing nice mahogany feathers on her hackles today):

Butter, a LF salmon Faverolles pullet. I love her grey puffball tail:

And the last one I haven't named, as I'm worried it might be a boy. The other LF SF, which is growing very dark feathers:

I'm so excited, I just ordered the last available quarter of beef from a farm of grass fed cattle in Ellensburg. Can't wait to get it! Should be done by the end of the month :thumbsup He delivers to the wet side too!

Stumpfarmer sells great grass fed beef right here on the wet side, in Lacey area.  ;)

**** her BiL also raises & sells porkers.

As the saying goes: PM me for information, although I'm not sure where we are on getting things butchered: my BIL only finished haying last week, and we're in the middle of weaning.

(I'm not going to catch up with the last day's posts, so if somebody wants to draw my attention to something, please do so).

Anyhow, I'm being visited by the elder spawn, and will be off line for a while, yay!

(sorry, y'all but I love my first born more than this thread, so sorry).

I'll keep Stumpfarmer in mind for next time! I'm all about reasonable cost too, and the total cost of the 1/4 cow will be $3.15/lb from the hanging weight; this includes the butcher fees and free delivery to me Hwy 18 exit from his farm in Ellensburg. If anyone can beat that on grass fed beef that is also dry hung, and get it reasonably close to my house, I'm in!!!

LOL...you must mean show.
And just wanted to chat crele...tell ya what I have going on, & see what you have going on.
I am registered to FB but have not been there, little time.
Oh no, I mean snow. We have snow on the ground right now. Message me anytime you have questions here on BYC, I'll do my best to give an answer within a reasonable amount of time

Oh... wow. Except, please tell me my Latte is not a roo! She's got those black feathers, too.

I wouldn't worry too much yet. Since Latte is a cross I'm guessing she's probably not going to feather in like a true Salmon Faverolles. In a few weeks it might be easier to tell. What I've always liked about Cloverleaf's Salmon Faverolles is that they can be sexed relatively early - around 3 weeks.
Latte is a unique little chick - the fun will be seeing how she grows and feathers out.

for Latte being a girl!

After reading about broodies being sneaky about hiding eggs under their wings I was quite skeptical. Well, shoot, I went and gathered up the eggs and yep, she had 3 hid under her wings and even held them while I moved her off her nest. LOL. 2 were the plastic eggs and 1 for real.
Got 5 eggs today, production is off but still ok as far as I'm concerned. I really enjoy the eggs but they are secondary to my enjoyment of having chickens.

Hrm, I'm thinking that the gold laced Wyandotte chicks as a batch just aren't very robust. I lost a second one today. It looked completely healthy - butt was clean and dry, eyes were clear, feathers looked great, and a little food in the crop. It didn't seem skinny either. It was just lying in the shavings on the floor. Maybe one of the ones trying to fly landed on it, who knows. But looking at the two remaining GLW, they are smaller and more fuzzy than the 4 chicks from Baxter Barn that are a week younger.

Guess it's a good thing I haven't named any of the GLW yet.

Other than Gimp, the 2 GLW are the only chicks I have lost.
