Geeeze, another week of showers everyday...................so much for the Farmer's Almanac predicting a very dry fall/winter/spring !

In Portland for October we got 6.14 inches of rain in the last two and a half weeks. That is 194% of normal rainfall for the month. I think we may get a nasty winter. Ugh

I dug a couple of small holes by the back fence for volunteer dogwoods yesterday. It's still bone dry four inches down.

Love the new avatar...BTW...beautiful birds !
We have clay here...and a few veins of gravel.
The gravel is all running over, down the hill as rivlets.
Same with the gopher holes...instant 'springs'
I have a feeling we will get alot of wet heavy slushy snow this year....ick !

Thanks for the welcome to this thread I'm trying to catch up got to post 71 or so.

Today I've fed the chickens they got cooked pumpkin that I put in the freezer last year
before I had chickens some folks gave me their Halloween decorations. This year I am
getting the straw too for the nest boxes.

Back to reading posts and trying to catch up I know I can do it caught up on the old timers thread!

I have some old barred rock hens, a couple EE, and young Marans to learn with. We had RIR when I was a kid, hubby had Leghorns. Grand kids love helping do the chicken chores here. Grandson is considering 4-h keeping a hen or chick here as they can't have them in the subdivision where he lives. The rest of the town can and even with roos!


No eggs here after moving them and molting black Morans are not old enough yet. We still are glad they help eat the bugs in the back yard! They like uncooked oat meal, corn meal and pumpkin mixed together for a home made crumble that I've been baking but I bet they would eat it w/out being baked!

I think I could quilt a kilt. 

Could you quilt a kilt on a stilt and not tilt? 

I would tilt, because I know that I'm a half of a bubble off plumb. But if the stilt was supported, it would be fun to quilt a kilt on a stilt.

He is not partial to my family tartan....DH is a Great Dane.... Maybe we should quilt him a camo kilt just for funnies ??????????

I think the Danish royal family has a tartan (Scottish Woolen Mills are good about making things that might make them a bit of copper).
