Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Mumsy. Have you ever been here? I go by this place often but never have stopped in.
Now that I went to their web page looks like I should.
Had no idea from driving by the entrance that is all back there.

OMG! YES! That was one of the first places I did the whole reenacting thing with my daughters! It is fabulous! A true hidden treasure in our region. It is privately owned and jaw dropping beautiful on the grounds. If you want the drop dead experience go on May spring opening and have a meal in the Boarhead Inn. You will not be dissapointed. You don't need a period appropiate costume but if you do dress up it makes the experience a lot more fun.

I am a seamstress and make all period costumes for myself and family.

Usually these are breeders of show birds and are selling their "pet quality" or extras that they can't use in their breeding programs. So they are much safer than getting them from an auction. I would still quarantine but you should get healthy birds from the show.

Pet quality is what I'm looking for! Hopefully someone will have a black breed. DS was very concerned today when we went to Reber and there weren't any chicks there.

Are you talking about lilacs? When we moved here 15 years ago, I had to bring a lilac from the prior home with me. Just loved the thing. I brought 25 cuttings - soaked them in water until they rooted, then planted them outdoors. Thankfully, 1 survived. It is now a huge tree that I absolutely love. A lot of lilacs send up a bunch of stems that make them bushy - this one doesn't. It's a beautiful tree with a thick trunk.

I would SO love to get an Ameraucana and Red Star pullet right now, but I have two problems. I don't have a place to quarantine them and I need to get rid of my sweet Ginger (avatar EE). That little stinker hasn't layed an egg in 5 days! She sat in the nest box off and on several times yesterday but nuttin'! I need eggs not just a pretty smile!

Oh well, window shopping will have to suffice. sigh.

Drama hasn't laid an egg in two weeks. No biggie to me. Drama's the queen of the castle. She can do what she wants and get away with it.

Anyone want a goose for Thanksgiving?

I have a pair of March hatch full-grown grass-fed young geese that need to be butchered and dressed. If anyone volunteers, I will trade one goose for having the other ready to cook. I am in Spanaway. My husband will butcher turkeys and chickens, but draws the line at waterfowl and there is no longer a commercial operation close to us.

Ha! Ha! I asked DH about this. His exact words were "they're big, and smelly and not that easy. The fun part is the hunting." Then he started laughing. Guess we won't be taking ya up on that offer.

I hope you find someone who will.

Cuttings from lilacs have been difficult for us to start, too. We took about a dozen cuttings from my Grandmother's bush (she planted it in about 1925). We decided to try several methods and pray that some lived. The ones we planted directly in the ground and babied for a couple of years were the only survivors, 3 total. Rooting in water and putting cuttings in starter mix all failed.
