Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

CR you would not believe the awesome pile of old farm junk Jules has for you !!!
I am pickin through it & wanting a hand trowel....just one hand trowel.....traded for the WallFlowers !!!!!!!!!!!

I can bring plenty of useless plants - evergreen huckleberries, blackberries, salal, some moss...

I know this is going to sound silly... but, if it is the kind of moss you can line planter baskets with, I'd like some. I've been thinking about growing a few flats of moss for that purpose. I don't have any moss here.

I honestly wouldn't know what kind of moss that is. If I can muster up the oomph to go outside, I can take some pictures. I also wouldn't have the first idea how to 'harvest' moss...

Would you like me to dig up the suckers and bring them?
PLEEEEEEEEEEZE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but I am not sure we are going to make it to the show.
Seriously trying though.
You can always leave them with CR & we can get up to his place later if we cannot make it to the show.

My Dad has the most awesome sweet juicy crisp Asian Pear that sends up suckers up to 15 feet away.
He has dug up quite a few and givenn me several, along with a few HazelNut trees and baby TALL red leaf maple seedlings that come up in his tomato patch every spring.
They are a deep laced maple...about 15 feet tall & not very wide.
If I get to his place tomorrow I will dig up a bunch of those 3 trees.

I have 5 acres of that stuff too !

How about ferns? I also have a bunch of some kind of tree - I have no idea what's what in the evergreen world - that reminds me of the Charlie Brown Christmas Tree growing all over the place.

Just tear off hunks, and bring them indoors to dry on newspaper or screens of some sort.
Then bag it up.

A tiny cradle made of twigs, a rabbit fur blanket & mosses.
I have always wanted to make one of these to go on the front porch.
As soon as we have a front porch that is !

I'm guessing it's the wrong time of year to transplant trees, right? I have an unwanted Golden Rain Tree (I might actually have 2) and an unwanted Red bud in my "tree nursery". I grew them from starts. They are 3 years old. I'd hate to dig them up and have them die, though. I also have an unwanted evergreen that the biggest kid planted... darn thing is in a pot and huge. I'm trying to explain to the oldest DS that we have to let it go somewhere that it can be planted before it dies in the pot. I don't want it in my yard. It's "his" tree and he doesn't want to let it go. The thing is taller than my fence.

The Golden Rain Tree(s) and Red bud came from the Arbor Day foundation.

In the spring, if anyone is interested in any of those, let me know.
This is an okay time of the year to transplant a tree. As long as you put them in a pot, and leave them outdoors, they should be fine. It's going to be cold enough, that the sap shouldn't be running in the trees. I would love one of the golden chains. The Red bud is interesting, but I don't have room for it.
