What a gorgeous day! Everybody enjoy! Got to harvest for co op today. So nice to not have to do it in the pouring rain.

Another bizarre morning in my yard. Bootsie, my tranny rooster (I traded a 'hen'-turned-rooster for what I was ASSURED was a hen who then turned rooster on me), was attacked and left bloody and minus some of his gorgeous tail feathers. Once again, Bootsie sexually assaulted Goose who is a DUCK and a BOY!!! Goose's two closest buddies, Iceman and Slider, the two giant fatty geese, thugged up on Bootsie and, I swear, drug him behind the shed to beat on him. Thankfully I still had my fence picket in my storage shed in the run that I used as a rooster putter when I still had Lilly, the first tranny rooster. The fence picket was used as a prying tool to lever the geese off of the rooster. Now the pressure is really on to catch the rooster and get him out of here. He'll let me pet him and enjoys a good neck scratch but as soon as he sees two hands he's gone. Can you slip a chicken a valium? Some benadryl? (I am joking)

All this while still in my pajamas (and rubber wellies) and only slightly awake.

Went to collect the eggs yesterday and I found that one of my beloved ladies has gone broody. GRR! I removed her eggs and replaced them with ice cubes. Anyone else have any recommendations? She's one of my best layers! I figure I'll be swapping eggs for about a week. Thank goodness I used fruit boxes because I can just pull the box out onto the counter and poke around behind her and then put her back in her place with little to no protest from her.

Don't count on her only being broody for a week. I would bet much longer. The way I deal with them is I have a wire rabbit cage. The cage is suspended in air so it swings a bit. Normally I can put a broody in there and about 3 days later she is ready to go back to work.

Good look forward to seeing you. All I know about potluck is I have asked it not be in my booth simply because it makes it too hard for people to shop with me. Also I have offered to bring a big gas BBQ and allow my 6x12 enclosed trailer to be used.

Solitary confinement in a cage with a wire bottom -- suspend this cage. The hen will feel unsafe. Keep here there for about 3 days, then let her back into the flock. Once in a while I have to put her 'in the hole' for another 3 day stretch but this usually works well for me.

For Justahannah, I had logged out but you got me thinking and had to come back to say something about dogs. My little Bella (Welsh Corgi) is an exciting, full of energy dog, not yappy, stuck to my side like glue, doesn't miss anything dog. She is soooo much fun. But we also have a yellow lab, Dozer. Compared to Bella, I guess you can say he lacks in personality. Likes to take lots of naps and can't be outside too long in the winter or his teeth will chatter! LOL. But I have to say, my Doe is also the best companion in the world. He loves his Momma. Where Bella will be outside running around expending energy, Doe will be keeping a watchful eye out. If I am teary he will stay beside me and lick my tears and if he thinks I am threatened, well watch out! He may be taking a nap but as soon as he hears a sob he is right there. He is such an old soul even though young. I guess it just depends on what you need. I have the best of both worlds with Bella and Dozer. Right now, I can't imagine life without either one of them.

Well I just went out and did a head count on my chickens. I haven't really known for some time now how many chickens lived at my house.

How do you keep sphagnum moss alive? Unless it is buried under the grass, moss always seems to die around here. I have quite a few metal planters that I'd love to have lined with moss. So, I'd need to know how to grow more moss from whatever I can get my hands on.

Well pettec63 and her DH left a few minutes ago. They dropped off lots of cool goodies for me to make art from AND a couple tanks from CL. The little one of which I already have a plan for.
They let me know when about 10 minutes away So when they got here we had a plate of spaghetti, green beans and garlic bread for each. Hopefully that will get em most of the way home. Then after they left it dawned on me. I should have made some dinner for Taco (their dog).

The little propane tank is my Mother's of which she asked you to make her a pig that she could plant something in.
