I have to email myself anything I take with my iPhone. I try and only use my DSLR, but don't carry that with me EVERY time I go outside. You'd think I should, being a part time photographer.

We both just left the dinosaur age of cell phones this week and got "real" cell phones. I got an iPhone 4S, and he got a Samsung Galaxy S3 (thankfully, DD is standing next to me and knew what his phone was). Both of us are trying to figure them out. I've figured some things out on mine, he's figured some things out on his. We're both trying to figure out the photos. His phone camera can zoom - I'm still trying to figure out if my camera can zoom. We're not sure how to transfer anything.

I don't know if the iPhone has this app, but I also have a Galaxy S3 and it comes preloaded with an app called Dropbox. If you sign up for a Dropbox account on your computer and turn it on on your husbands phone, there's a setting that will automatically transfer any picture taken on your phone to your computer. You can also link it to other computers, I use it all the time with school files so I can access my assignments anywhere I have internet, it's pretty much like signing into an email account. It has options to upload anytime a picture is taken, as wanted, or to only do it when you have a wi-fi connection so you're not blowing through battery/data...I use the wi-fi option so they automatically go through whenever I'm near my home network. Hope that helps!
Yes, there is an iPhone dropbox app--I can use the same dropbox on my computer, ipad and phone. very handy.

That sounds like Apple's iCloud. iPhones can do it, I choose not too. I don't like the idea of my pictures being stored on a server that others have access to(it's the photographer in me and a copyrights thing).

I'm not sure what Apple's privacy and copyright policies are like, but I felt pretty comfortable after reading Dropbox's...they don't claim ownership of your data and will respond to and do what they can to prevent copyright theft. Granted, my pictures aren't professional and I mostly use it for school things so I don't have to lug my laptop everywhere I go, so even if it was less secure I wouldn't have much to lose.

EDIT: Also, I guess if I was really concerned but needed the transfer capabilities, I could use it to move files to my computer or phone then immediately move them to another folder and delete them out of the Dropbox file.

Hi all, been away for a week and can't read through the 100+ pages I'm behind! DH's grandmother passed so we are busy dealing with that, plus all sorts of other mayhem. Miss you all, but hope to be back again soon.

Email them from your phone to your computer? Use a mini-usb cable to transfer them from the phone to the computer?

This isn't from the group of photos my husband took. I just took this photo to test the e-mail process. Looks like that is one way I can get photos from my iPhone. He's still looking at his phone trying to figure his process out.

Here's our brooder that is still sitting in the living room. They're beginning to smell
sickbyc.gif
... so they got booted outdoors for a while today. I moved the PVC chicken tractor inside the pop-up greenhouse and swapped the lower watt bulb (seen here) up to the 250 W bulb while the heat lamp was in the greenhouse. I think they still got a little chilled though - they've been huddled most of the evening, and they usually don't do that under this set-up. We're going to have to move them to the garage soon. I'll miss their constant chirping.

While they were in the tractor, I took the opportunity to fix the brooder lid so it sits flat. The deck box has a dip where the deck box lid was hinged on, and the brooder lid would dip down into that area. I'm glad it finally sits straight.

When we're done brooding, the brooder lid will fold up and fit inside the deck box, then we'll just put the deck box lid back on and store the whole thing outside.

They're on sand. Let me tell you - that works so much better than pine chips - not to mention, I'm severely allergic to pine chips. Remember when I got so sick when I had my first set of chicks in the house, then in the garage? Turns out, I'm a LOT more allergic to pine chips, than I am to chickens. I have not been anywhere close to being as sick as I was this go-around. My allergy shots are probably helping, too.

The iPhone can zoom but you get a LOT of noise. You can pinch out on the screen or touch near bottom to bring up the hidden zoom bar.

I have an iPhone 4S. The camera lens can't physically zoom, but you can digitally mimic it by putting two fingers on the screen and spreading them apart while taking the pic, just like you would zoom in on a web page. But unless you are in daylight the quality isn't great. I don't often upload my pics with the USB cable, mostly because my laptop is a Macbook and I loathe iPhoto. I post a lot of pics on Facebook with my phone using the FB app, and then I download them on the laptop from FB. I also email them to myself on the laptop.

Jennifer

Thanks! That worked!

Cool! Thanks! I don't see Dropbox preloaded on my iPhone. I'll check to see if I can download an app like that. I'm off to tell DH about it right now - since his should be preloaded.

Hi there everyone, just dropping in for a while to catch up. I miss it here but we've been busy again with sick kids (stomach flu! each kid has had it once, and I don't feel very well tonight). Home school for John's first grade is going very well and we're super happy with our curriculum and schedule; it just took a while to adjust to mommy being the teacher

William potty trained like a champ over the course of a few naked days at home so we're finally done with cloth diapers full time; this is the first time in 4.5 years I haven't had to wash diapers every other day and it's such a blessing! Just night dipes for both younger kidlets.

Jeanine is having some major behavioral issues we're working through lately so I'm trying very hard to stay off the computer and focus on being a good mom and guide her to our beautiful Savior and His grace each and every time a sin issue arises. Well, I guess it's not just her, it's all 3 kids we strive to do this with. I'm mostly working on me though, because they'll only learn through my example not my words.

So there's the synopsis of us; Isaac is also finally back at the F.D. for 48 hour shifts and then off for 4 days so it's taking a bit of work to adjust to him being home during our school day; we don't want to do school, we want to play! But we know what's best is a proper schedule for them and our whole family. He's also back to working for Cutco full time and God has tremendously blessed us in this endeavor lately.

I'm having a rough time accepting the election results this week but know that God has it all in His perfect plan; I can be thankful that His sovereignty is such a comfort to me.

I hope y'all have fun at the show this weekend, wish I could come too! We're going Friday to see King Tut's exhibit (just me and John because of the cost, and since he's school aged) and I'm so excited! If anyone needs something from me please PM me as I'm a bit out of the loop here lately.

Im in the same boat JB -- I think I have more than 60 and less than 80, but I'm not sure.

You guys be careful with that chicken math! I still feel bad for the people I bought our chicken tractor from. They live on a small neighborhood lot, started out with 5, then chicken math took over. They got in trouble with the city and all coops & chickens were required to be removed ASAP. We asked how many they had, and they didn't know. They sold them off to multiple people. The only # she could remember was one guy buying 40. The area the chickens were in was not much bigger than the area my kid's swing set is in. That was a bit shocking for us to hear. We couldn't imagine more than just a few living in our entire back yard, let alone in one corner of it.
I appreciate the concern. i do know when I hit my limits on the size of flock that I care for. I will admit to being at the upper limit currently. For myself it depends on how often I have to clean the coop. If I can go for more than a month or two, then I feel it's okay, but when it gets to the point of having to be cleaned out once a week or less, then I have to many birds in the space. I have a rather large area for my run, so even though the coop is rather small, it has been working. I am planning on letting a number of my older hens go in the spring. I am planning to turn most of my flock into blue egg layers. So I know that their will be birds coming and going. But I can't imagine having 40 birds in my set up, let alone more than that. There would be no way for me to keep up with that many birds.
