Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi All,
Back in town and getting ready for Chehalis Saturday and I'm even bringing a good friend that also has chickens... fun day all around.

Now I need to know....
1. Are we doing a food related get-together? I need to know what kind of food to bring and when/where are we meeting?
2. Are we doing name tags?
3. Does anyone want red dahlia tubers, Liatris bulbs, a thyme plant, a lavender plant, cilantro seeds? I'd rather not drag them around if no one wants them.

I'm sure looking forward to seeing y'all!

ETA: also Crocosmia bulbs (Lucifer, the tall red one)

I would like a few Dahlia, Liatris and a little lavender PLEASE.

Also last I heard last night. They have over 900 entries for this show!! That is really good. I have been told this show normally has about 500. To put it into perspective for anybody who was at Salem. I was told Salem ended up with just under 500. I am not putting either showdown just using their #'s for comparison for those who were there. Stevenson Was about 1000 birds. I feel that Salem will grow and actually heard first time vendors (from the Salem area) say they expect the Salem show to double by next year.

Well since I seem to have caught up here and there seems to be nobody out there. It is warm out (44*) so maybe I will head to the shed to make more stuff for the show.

Quote: I simply do not understand why anyone would feel the need to manage their diabetes? (JUST KIDDING) My husband has transplant induce diabetes. His sugars are frequently at 35 and 600 and he is walking around just fine (he thinks). Checks his sugars about once a month for what reason I do not know. Why bother? Guesses on the insulin which is why his sugars dip to 35. When I suggest he check them regularly like he is suppose to so he can regulate and prevent the sugar swings he just tells me to leave him alone, he's knows what he is doing, he's been doing it long enough he should know! So, I have to back off. So if you don't learn something till you're 6 ft under I guess you never really learned! Tell ya what though, I'm getting weary of rescuing him all the time. One of these days.....

Quote: Yes, I get the Allertec from Costco. I use it year round, DW and DS use it when their allergies act up.

Quote: Thankfully as I have gotten older mine has focused to my feet, hands/arms and face(especially around the eyes). In youth ages it was head to toe. I was treated at OHSU for 3 years it got so bad. They actually told me when it starts getting bad to go tanning for a few weeks. Something about the UV light helps heal the eczema. I will NEVER again take Prednisone for it(off and on for over 8 years. Dr.s were amazed I was able to have kids. Infertility is a major side effect with long term use)

CR, just for reference from a person that exhibits. There are lots of folks who did not attend the Salem show because of the location and because of the $10 entry fee. They were "protesting".

I will not go to the Salem show again; it is just too far of a drive.

I know of a few more people that won't go to the next one also. So I don't expect the numbers to improve that much.

Night two in the outdoors, and the chicks haven't figured out the whole roosting thing. I thought they had yesterday because they would go up on it while the lights were on, but when I went out after dark they were sitting on the floor. I checked tonight and once again, they are all on the floor. Is there a good way to help them figure it out, or will it just take time? At least everyone appears to be staying inside.

They prefer to stay indoors even during the day. I went out with some worms and got them to come out, but once the worms were gone they went back in. Here are the three biggest, who readily come out to see what treats I've got. I think all three are boys. What do you think?

I put the first coat of paint in my quarantine coop. I've got to put on more coats (as many as I can get done by Friday), replace the chicken wire (and it's going to be a pain to remove!), add a layer of treated 2X4s on the bottom, and put in a heat source. But hopefully it'll do:

I've got a whole list of improvements to make to the coop down the road to make it easier to use. Bigger pen (much bigger!), litter guard board across the front, cut open the side and add external nest boxes, restain the exterior, and move the pop door to a side rather than the floor. But hey, this thing cost a *tiny* fraction of what I'm spending on my big coop and pen, so I'm not complaining! LOL

Jennifer
I have tried to encourage my chickens to roost before, but they still slept on the floor until they were good and ready to roost at night. Now I just let them do it in their own time. I watch to make sure they are geting up on the roosts at some point during the day, if they are then you can rest assured that eventually they will do it at night.

We haven't figured that out. Not really any place to actually put it on. IF it doesn't rain, I guess there might be a few picnic tables or something. So I am not sure we are doing something this time or not. I am prepared to get sandwich makings if we do. We are thinking ot at least staging the food at CR's trailer. If anyone has room for card table in their vehicle, we could do it that way. I am going to see if I can swing it.

Quote: Yes Jean I understand that for anyone east Salem adds 160 miles to the round trip. I think they are counting on pulling from Cali. While I really liked Stevenson. Partly because I grew up in the Gorge and it is beautiful scenery. I also liked the facility at Salem. I will say that of the 4 PNPA shows I have done as a vendor. Salem was my lowest in sales. Will I do it again YES. I try not to judge a venue by one time.
Quote: Yes my trailer is available BUT the trailer is ONLY 6'x12'. I also have a 6' folding table and a 10 x 10 pop up if we need it. I plan to try to find a close location for the trailer maybe under one of the covered areas . Look for a little white trailer with some kind of pink flags on it!!! Maybe Friday when we get the trailer set and see if I can tap a current bush SOMEBODY (hint hint) with net on phone can post a better idea of plan.
