Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I just got back from Reber Ranch a few minutes ago. I just bought 3 50lb bags of Layena for $25!!!!! Here's why: Total was $59, minus $10 coupon; paid with AmEx card and got $25 back off the purchase (later, not instantly) because it was "Small Business" or "Shop Small" day. Woohoo!!! That's $8.33/bag, and only $0.17/lb for feed!

Nice score, Jess!

JenS --I don't know how you can stand those low flying planes! We drove up to Mukilteo to buy something from craigslist and one of those planes flew right over our car. It freaked us all out. I think I'd have to move LOL.

You mean there is no such thing according to the APA, right?

ETA: So in the future if I aquire a Partidge color roo and put him over my BR hen, the males would be Crele, right?
It is a little more intensive than that, requiring the offspring to be bred back to the parents for several generations....and Partridge will never breed true without the e-locus gene....so you'll get alot of weird babies, and maybe a crele once in a blue moon.
Hard to explain.

Honestly, I have never in my life seen a more gorgeous colorful rooster. The first guy is stunning! The second guy is beautiful! You must be very proud of them. They are breathtaking.

Thankyou !
It is a work in progress that is taking alot more time, energy & money than I anticipated...but it is worth it.

OK guys...I caught a weird critter in my rat-sized hav-a-hart trap...caught on a piece of bread with pea nut butter on it....cute little dudette is about 4-5" long & about as fat around...small ears in deep thick soft fur...this dudette reminds me of a pika...has a tail about 4" long, smaller around than a rat's tail, flat teddy bear-like face...this is no rat !
What is it ???

I dumped it in a crawdad trap & took pictures through the hole in the end....

Her face was wet...and she was busy cleaning off....cute little booger !
I let her go...so, what is it ?
A lemming ?
Any ideas ?

OK so CL PLEASE edamacate me I thought cedar was a no in the coop?

I do know there are +'s like fresh smell and parasite control and -'s like it takes for ever to compost.
I use it in the big bird's coops, and fir in the brooders.
It seems to work just fine, and I have not seen any minuses.
Straw takes forever to compost..but I use compressed straw in the nest boxes....hens love it.
I do toss a few handfuls of cedar shavings in each nest, yes it makes life miserable for bugs.
There is windows open all the time, and this stuff has been kiln dried, so there is little "fumes" and oils left in it.

Ah, phooey, CL's post reminded me: I needed to get DE this weekend, and forgot.
So: think maybe Petsmart might have it? Freddies?
I just went out and got way too much of many things: Christmas clothing for Himself and both young men, Layena (at no bargain price, alas) and two sacks of stove pellets, which I use to deal with mudpits in the yard, and dog food, cat food, and more dogfood from TJ's.
And if Himself is up to leaving the house, we still need to get to Freddie's and buy a round of stuff there. He used up his shopping oomph taking Ruby to get her tonails cut this morning, and doesn't seem to have regained any while I was doing chores or shopping.
Montesano Farm & Garden, right off the freeway in Montesano, sells 50# bags of food grade DE for $27.00...and they load it in the van for me...

It comes in a plastic-lines paper sack, and I keep it intact in a clean dry garbage can, then cut the top off the bag...better than dumping it out into the can !!! POOOOOFF!!!!!!!!!!!!
