Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

well I am going to grab another coffa-cupey & head out to get some work done whilst it is not raining....

wanted to ask CR if he got Mom's weird littl propane tank pig done ?
Any ideas if it can be a planter or is it too small ?

One more post about rats then I'm done for now.

Yesterday, after I posted the photo of the dead rat that I had found in the big run and disposed of it, I left for work. When I returned home at 6:30 PM, DH says to me, "Nice picture on the computer. Way to clean up your mess"! I said, "What mess"?

"The dead rat - way to get rid of it. Thanks a lot".
"What do you mean? I tossed it in the garbage. Where was I supposed to put it"?
"No you didn't".
"I didn't what"?
"Toss it in the garbage. I had to do it".
"I'm pretty sure I know if I tossed a rat in the garbage or not. It's pretty indelibly marked in my memory".
"No, you left it in the garage where I found it and *I* had to throw it away".
"You found one in the garage? A dead rat? In a trap"?
"Yeah, where YOU left it"!

"NO, I did not leave a dead rat in the garage. I opened the trap and threw the rat in the trash".
"No, you didn't".
"Yes, I did".
"No, I had to throw away your dead rat because you had left it the garage. You took it outside, took a picture of it and then put it back in garage"!
"Okay. I'm getting it now. You remember we had set two traps, right"?
"Yeah".
"Well I found a dead rat in the run and I DID throw it in the trash. The one YOU found hadn't been caught yet when I left the house this morning".
"Huh"?
"I'm telling you that TWO rats were caught and killed today. One in the run and the other in the garage. I tossed the first and you tossed the second. Are we all caught up now"?
"Oh, two rats were killed today".

"Yeah. Yay for us. Can we move on to a different topic now"?

Oy. Just in case it wasn't enough fun to deal with already, it's another entertaining source for potential miscommunication. You can't tell me that even after 22 years of marriage we don't know how to amuse each other!
So, traps are being reset. We continue the war, hopefully on the same team.

ha! I caught up again ! Orthopaedic doc says NO I do not have to have surg now, unless I want to have an Athroscopy...and I do have meniscus missing, so that is likely how the femur slips off the tibia....the pain resulting would cause the leg to "go limp & give out" causing the fall (like a sacka taters !) I am thankful I have not busted any bones....but he did say bones are much easier to heal than ligaments & tendonal tears. So... I continue my home PT exercises, I can go to a "real" PT if I want to (gotta check insurance coverage first) But...I am healing & the "shredded" remainder of ligaments are healing...so that is great news ! We have far too many "issues" going on right now for me to have surgery & a 6-8 week bed rest term................... Maybe next year, maybe it will all heal and never have another fall :fl Roof contractor was here last night, game plan was gone over, Wednesday is the $$$ issue day, so what we'll need now (ha ha ha ) is about 2 weeks of decent dry weather................. :fl hey, it could happen, right ????????????????? :idunno
Have you thought about wearing one of those elastic braces to keep your knee in place so it doesn't slip?

Also, I need tips on planting:
1) The dahlia "Bhuella Ruth" tubers..................do I bust them up ?
Points up ?
Sideways ?

2) The Crocosmia::: Is it as invasive as I have read ?
Should they go into a container rather than in the ground ?
And, do I bust up all the rings, or does growth only occur on the "new" ends ??????????
So each "ring" would not necessarilly grow ???

I am a vegie gardener...not a flower gardener !!

You can cut the tubers apart, but make sure each section has some old stem attached. That's is where the tubers send up their new growth. Otherwise, just lie the tubers flat and plant. Do not cut them up like potatoes.

The crocosmia does spread, but it does not send out a tap root to China. It's easily pulled where you don't want it. I'm not sure what you mean by rings. Each corm will sprout, so you can take them apart if they're all stuck together.

Sorry haven't had a chance to look yet. Seems I now am going get to sample the wonderful cold stuff people have been passing around.

Vole. Come to my place this summer if you want to catch a few.

This critter is 4-5X the size of our voles, and it has a long tail, rat length, only flatish, not a round tail.
I catch voles almost every day out here, and this ain't one of them.
It maybe a different variety of vole ?
But with the long tail...just does not even look voley...far too big !

It could be one of the native wood-rats: somewhat rare, shy, non-disease-carrying, related to Packrats, not either of the European Rattus species.
