I asked DH to pose by the tree stump so as to get an idea of size, and this is the biggest of them all, and we have maybe 10 altogether...

OH MY! and no one is buying those from you????? what kind? those would be slabs, beams, solid plank tables and furniture, etc etc
Dang now I wish i had a mill myself. I'd love to get solid plank 3-5" thick for counter/bar/tables
maybe I can find someone to mill it/buy it...
what species? and how long have they been down?

Sitka Spruce is used to make guitars... and I'm utterly amazed that you have not had offers for the tree

Maple burls are also used for guitars and violins. Gorgeous wood when worked properly.

Maybe I am just not contacting the correct people.
The problem is that these trees are so big, imagine a self loader trying to pick up a hunk...won't happen or it would tip the truck over.
And quartering them is the only way except for the taller portions, more narrow can be worked without quartering.
I have heard this spruce is used alot in shipbuilding as it tolerates dampness without warpage ?
Got another hit on the CL ad this morning.
Will see...and I will continue to look for mills or wood buyers that may want this species...
It is getting Halloween!!! I love Halloween!!!
Beware of the goulies and ghosties and the Chickielady going bump in the night !!!

Creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy!!!!!!

I have so much fun with Halloween...probably drive DH crazy...
I have decorations, electric plastic pumpkins...a cackling motion-detected with and ghost...and all sorts of other creepies...DH has reminded me numerous times that we live way way way out in the boondocks and there will be no one to see these decorations, no trick or treaters...

Oh well, I decorate anyway....

I also wanted to say I hope I offended no one by my novella about the hatchery birds...I really do think some are good, and like eveything else in the world, there is bad money hungry people in there too, who do not care about ripping innocents off.
All we can do in our capacity is educate, and try to sell as many purebred birds as we can, sooner or later the public will learn what is and what is not, a purebred bird.
Many do not care, and many have cull birds or hatchery birds that aly great eggs and that is all they care about, just like mutt dogs and cats, and people too !!!

well the second bite on my ad for the logs just wanted to ask after them, and not too interested in them.
I do not know of who else to call....any suggestions ?
The best wood is in the butt, and the butt is too big to haul or saw in place unless it is sectioned or quartered...even if I have someone come out just for the easier to deal with tops, it is not as good of wood as the knot-less butts...a dilema.
Anyone who knows of a place that takes sitka spruce give me a hey...off to work.

unless the butt is bigger then 8 feet diameter it is not to big. I'm still floored the guys who cut it down did not ask to buy them from you. was there any problem with the trees? did you cut them intending to use them?

Anyone interested in an Ameraucana/Easter Egger Rooster? 9 weeks old. We live in a rural residential area on Camano Island, so I'm sure my neighbors would be happy I get of him.
