Congrats on the hatch! Sorry you didnt get what you wanted right off the bat though. But at least you know what your looking at, and are able to tell them apart. lol

Oh and better, if I get a crossbred (like my Easter Egger) just by the leg color, comb type, head, and down color I know what cockerel snuck his genes in there.

Really though the only reason I'm getting unwanted mutts is because my darned (now culled) clean faced Gold Duckwing Araucana got in there one day out of my family letting him loose in the lawn, not knowing he'd just go straight to the pasture, . . . And, yeah. One day and your whole genepool can be shot.

My DH has a similar story. HE personally was not allowed pets, only his mother, and the dogs were hers, but him and his brother did all the work. My DH finally got his first pet as a gift for his 30th B-day, to bad Dh doesnt like cats, cause that what was given to him. He got his first dog as a tip while delivering Pizza two years ago. She's an Aussie / Rottie mix, and is the biggest love, but OH so protective! Great dog! So now we have three dogs, an 11 year old Chow / german shepard mix "Dusty" She is my baby, then there is Wheazy our mini Dachsund, and Kona my DH's dog. We are expecting an "oop's" litter from Wheazy, but at least they are pure bred and both parents are from show stock and registered... Ugg... Puppies are due in less than two weeks... They are due aprox. around the 6th of November... Yeay happy Birthday to me! I get pups as an early gift from the dogs...

We also have two foster mares who should be leaving mid November, then our two personal equines Lacy and Teagan... Then the four pullets who are holding out on me I swear it! I'M STILL waiting on eggs! Grrr!!!

Silly girls need to figure it out. I'm SICK of store bought eggs... Oh and then there are tjhe 8 or so chicks I will be picking up from Illia when they are ready.

Ok I'll stop rambleing now. lol

No, I love rambeling and learning about others. Exciting on the puppies...how fun. Oh, and btw...there was a past topic on biting dogs - the only dog I have ever been bitten by is a dauchsy - at a show - and I had asked permission to pet. I put my hand forward for her to sniff me, she latched onto my finger and I was holding a dauschund in the air. I have known some nice pit bulls (would never ever have one and I don't trust them), known rotties, dobbies (I knew a nerd dobbie - pocket protector and all). Crazy.

My girls are holding out on me also. I have 10 girls and are only getting 4 eggs a day. I think they know they will not be culled as they are pets with perks. DH would never cull his girls.

My DH came from an alcoholic/abusive famly. His mother died when he was young. Long, icky story. But anyway, my Spuds-dog brought him around and one day he comes to me and says: "I want a dog". I say great, what kind. "I want a pomeranian". My response: "Huh?". Mind you DH is 6 somethin' and over 200 lbs and is "tough-guy" personality. "Really, a Pom?". Yep, that is what he wanted...so we got Tonka. If I wasn't careful, he would bring home every lost puppy and kitten and chicken and goat and piggy.....etc, he could (he definitely would be a hoarder).

We have foster cared for kittens - from our local rescue - many summers in a row. I had - at one time - 11 bottle baby kittens - all from different litters. We are taking a break from this this summer. I understand you helping out the rescue ranch....I try to help as much as I can too, here local.

LOL If I even attempted to tell my husbands story it would take a book worth of pages. Plus most of his upbringing was Way illegal, and oh so wrong... I'll just leave it at that.

My DH's dog Kona, is a great dog, we have her trained to not get any closer than 20 feet, and then hold her position. Ive been bit by two dogs, my own Dusty dog, when I was brushing her out, and a chocolate lab named Bruno. My Wheazy dog is terrified of my unkle and will rip him to shreds if he picks her up. Other than that my pups are pretty good, just bark ALOT!!! Sometimes you can't get them to shut up. lol

As for my Fosters, this is my first time, and so far so good. Though I do realise every critter is different, so just because its going well this time doesnt mean in the future some mishaps wont happen...

Well I guess its a good thing that I will only have 1 roo for everyone. lol So I will iether get pure Am's, Olive eggers, or easter eggers. But the only eggs I think I will allow to hatch will be blue and those gorgeous chocolate brown eggs! lol And I bet I'm gonna bombard you and others with lots of questions in the spring.

So let's see if I can get the correct "quote" things done so I do not have all of the context above.

Have fun with all the different critters...each one will have its own personality. You can have a different fun with each and every one. I have probably foster cared over 100 kittens over the years and each one is adorable and a pain in the rear.

I especially love it when I know where they go and the new parents send me photos and stories. your poor uncle....

can't even come for a visit without taking his own life into his hands. I know they do like to bark, my parents live next door to me and they have 2 dauschies. Silly critters.

Yep, my DH story should be an example of how NOT to parent. LOL .

mmm.. yes, white calls... a little birdie told me this! bahahah!

So... I have some funny little cochin/araucana crosses--they are ADORABLE hobbity chickens..but I can't keep them all... anyone with extra room want some???? They are almost 2 1/2 months old now.

They are out of my non-tufted/tailed black araucana hen with my mille fleur cochin roo. {it was an accident ~ you have to read the story on my blog. lol!} They have totally interesting coloring.

I think about how my husband was raised, and I do the complete oposite! So far its working. lol

I LOVE it when housework doesn't take as long as expected... I guess it helps that my little one is not thrashing my house for once. lol

All thats left now is that never ending pile of laundry. lol

Hehehe

I got out and raked some leaves. I still have a cold. It's moved down to my chest. I hope I didn't overdo it, but the leaves were just massed on the porch steps and front walk as well as the lawn. They had to go.

BTW Chickielady If you haven't already..... make sure to contact Scott (patriot farms) before you go there. AND if ya come over let me know as we are just the other side of the freeway. IN FACT if ya wanted to meet me I could show ya how to find his place.

OK, maybe tomorrow, today being the only dry day, I have 5 loads of laundry to wash/hang !!!!

Do you go read the Coop De Grace cartoons on Friday? She has rabbits as well as chickens.

Quote:
yes, I did all that, but enough is enough, and now I am going to try to show a few chickens...but you have different rabbits than I do.
I can still show mine at Fair..that is enough showing for me, like best buck, best doe and meat pen or pen of 3, and out here we have doe/bunnies but have to be 3 week old bunnies to show.
I am too old for all this non-sense
lau.gif
I have the best meat rabbits~~~

Your California bunny is pretty. Right now all we have is a generic "mutt" bunny. We have her as a pet and for fertilizer for my garden. We actually built a chicken-style run around the area where her cage is so that we can let her out to play. Today she was working on her tunnel to China. Little does she know that I go in and fill it in.
ya.gif

We have her hutch down low and use a board for her to climb in and out. As it gets dark, she is just like the chickens, she goes back in her hutch. I go in and lock it up. She has had a nice day of playing and now she is safe and locked up until the next time I let her out. It is actually fun to watch her running around doing the crazy bunny kicking in her run.

On a different note: I have all BR girls and one lone little Cochin that I was given. I let them out of the run to ravage the remains of my veggie garden, it is so funny to see that little Cochin (Hannah) fluff all up, wings out, head down, running her fluffy little butt off attacking one of the BR or doing the whole chicken happy dance. Neck feathers out, head bouncing, chest bumping. It is hilarious. Hannah can always hold her own against the BRs.

The FBCM you sold me started to lay a couple of weeks ago. She lays mostly eevry other day. Occasionally more often. It's a pretty speckled egg. She's as talkative as ever, but it mostly seems to be grumbling. Where are the treats? When are you going to let me out to free range? That sort of thing. She is beautiful with that lovely beetle green thing going on.
