I went ahead and made myself a hot buttered rum to sip on and rewarm up with! Had to make it light on the rum though, or every bad joint in my body would flame up... Sometimes I want a drink, and sometimes it sucks cause it usually hurts to much to have even a sip...

I would LOVE to take a hot bath... But I'm to tall to soak in my tiny little tub. Its the perfect size for my DH, as he is a little guy, and Chloe loves to try and swim in it. But I need something that is at least 5-6' long. lol Sometimes it sucks being almost 6' tall...

What sucks, is having no running water, and have to pack a 5 gallon bucket home, heat it in a big pot, and grab a sponge to take a bath.
But even that feels good and is better than what alot of people have.
Good night eveyone !!!

Reminds me of my Peace Corps days.

In an emergency, a lady's bra makes for a pretty decent short-term brooder. Makes for cuddly chicks that grow into friendly hens, too.

You do what you gotta do to keep the fluffy little darlings alive and well when the power goes out!

We've got 3 freshly hatched chicks in the incubator and hopefully more to come (18 eggs total), so the power had better stay on!

I think my incubator screwed up and killed all my eggs

I only have 2 blue laced wyandottes hatched and the rest of the eggs are not moving.
Only have about 12 quails hatch so far and none of the serama's hatched.

I want a good incubator digital thermostat.
Anyone know of a good one? Been looking at things at the hardware store but I don't know enough to find a good one that will really keep the temp correct.

The wafer thermostat is a pain to keep correct temp. when the eggs start producing their own heat I constantly have to adjust it to maintain 100 degrees.

sigh... gonna keep the eggs in the bator for a few more days just in case but I think I have all that I'm gonna get out of this batch

At least it did not screw up on my java eggs. but I hate the fact that I did not get 1 serama out of 17 eggs and only 2 wyandottes out of 17 eggs.

I guess we are lucky. My family has lived in this location for 5 year, and our power has only gone out one time. Was only out for an hour. I guess it helps that we are only 6 houses down the power lines from the main power station for our area.

Though we do have a generator next door, that is large enough to give partial power to my families two properties. Enough to keep the hot box for the horses running, some lights in the houses, and our wells running... Thats more than enough for me.

We have had some bad ice storms with limbs and trees going down all over the place. Lucky for us the water treatment plant is on our line. We are always the first to get power back on.

Chickielady is only laughing because she is remembering the things that her babies did....as am I at this moment. My daughter had a vomiting episode in the middle of the night. She then decided it would be fun to paint herself and the wall with it. It was disgusting. Puke everywheres.

Also, my dd peed on me. Took the diaper off, held her leg (so she would not roll off) and reached under the changing table for a diaper....suddenly had a wet sensation going down my arm....yep, she peed on me....I had always thought only boys did that. We all have our horror stories and as the moms of older children we can now look back and laugh. But we laugh with you, as you too will look back one day and laugh (even though right now you want to cry). Go to bed....I hope that tomorrow is better.

My DH is remembering the poop paint the entire wall episode with his twins.....
Oh yeah, I remember strolling through the grocery store and Ben crapped, the most gurgly nasty running snarley....poopy...he was so cute, toe head with big blue eyes,,,little osh kosh bibs...and snaps in the crotch so's you could change the diddy...and it went through, and he was red faced, he was grunting !!!! down both legs, all over the groceries below in the cart...so I rushed to the check out, and the poor girl had to check us out, the FULL grocerie cart all dripped with Ben poo.....it was one of the most wonderful mom stories I have.
The other was when he delt with the food bank people in Okanogan...OMG kids can make your life exciting !!!

This poor-poor bird. He looks so disgusted. He looks like he is running around saying "sh*t, sh*t". LOL

I heard on the news this morning that you Western Mountain folk got quite a bit of rain yesterday...something like 1.5 inches. lots of flooding.
