My dog loves eggs. He'd have eaten it on the spot. You have a well trained dog. You should train him to gather your eggs for you every day.

My dog carried an egg into the house through the doggie door the other day. I know the dog got into the coop when I had the door open for cleaning. She didnt break it. Funny.

I understand exactly wat you are talking about. My mother and I colunteer at our local food bank, and there are SO many people who just aren't making it. Then there are the imigrants, who live 6 families in one home. Many hispanic families around here do just that, and it is the only way they know. Its sad to see all the kids, and its even more upsetting to see the people who USE the sistem that dont REALLY need it... Those are the people that I really get upset over. For them it is just plain LAZYNESS! But we are not allowed to turn anyone away, when they ask for help. Sharenet "the food bank I volunteer at" has had to put limits on food items that we hand out. There has been an explosion of people all over the place, who NEED help, but wont do it for themselves...

It is very sad.

The elementary school that my little brother goes to, sends four meals worth of food home for the low income students, so they have food over the weekends. This is a new policy for our school district, its nice that they are stepping up to help their students, but if the parents of said children, would just do a little more to help themselves, it MIGHT not be as needed...

I'm glad the schools are trying to help, but it isn't their responsibility, and shouldn't be their priority. Education should be the priority for the schools, not going over the budget to pay for weekends meals at home...

Please nobody think I'm bashing our schools, I'm not. We have a wonderful district, but it shouldn't be their responsibility to feed the students 7 days a week...

The world is a hard place right now, and kids are suffering for it. That is the saddest part. All the kids, who are having to grow up WAY to fast...

Hi TaraDee,

Welcome Aboard. I can't help you with the first part of Question #1 as I've not yet been to the auction. The show in December will be held at the fairgrounds. As for the Orpingtons however, I may be able to if your are looking for BO's. I will be getting either some chicks or hatching eggs from a friend who has SQ BO's. He got his birds from Christina Korfus and if you're really into Orpingtons, it won't be long before you recognize that name if you don't already know her. If I do get eggs, I will only need to get 4-6 chicks as I do not plan to show Orpingtons. I'd just rather have SQ birds around than the PQ birds.

As for Question #2 and a local meat processor, I have heard a few times that there is a meat processor in Snohomish that does wild game. You might try checking there. If they'll do deer, bear, elk, what-have-you, maybe they'll do poultry.

Hope that helps.

God Bless,

But how many of these muslim children being born are in very poor areas in Africa, how many survive past childhood, how many survive long enough to reproduce? All of this factors in in net population growth... in some areas population is already controlled by disease, famine, etc.

ok, just skimmed through the last several pages here. I was so behind! been busy lately.

1. I hope to go to the Chehalis show next month. I'm in Chehalis all the time and I've never gotten to go to a chicken show before

2. I hope whoever said that apples don't come from the supermarket, they come from trees doesn't forget the hard work that's put into helping that apple grow and harvesting, packing and shipping that apple to the supermarket. The vast majority of those whose jobs are to do all that are from Mexico, and are immigrants (perhaps not even legally... scandalous! </sarcasm there>).

3. I've been to the chicken swap meet on saturday at the yard birds before and it's really cool. You get to "talk chicken" with people

It's been quite a while since I last went, though, and I'm sure it's grown quite a bit since then. I just don't hardly go out town on Saturday mornings...

4. chickielady: sorry about your well! I hope you find water soon!!

5. those lavender orps are so adorable!!

That sounds like a case of Mareks. If you see one leg go forward and one leg go backwards, it's a sure sign. Could be just a minor case though. I had a older chick or two this year that showed some symptoms like that and wound up recovering. I have not vaccinated my birds in years for Mareks but did buy some chicks this year that probably were vaccinated. I thought that may have been the reason for the instance I saw. Either way the birds made it so I should continue to see a high resistance to Mareks.

One thing you may want to get your hands on is a copy of "The Chicken Health Handbook" by Gail Damerow. As far as I've found, it is the most exhaustive resource on the subject.

God Bless,
