Whats the latest news on the feed from Patriot Farms?

I had a little more than a half dozen light sussex hatch yesterday and one australorp. Hopefully theyll be enough hens to replace my light brown leghorns.

All my outdoors plants are done fo rthe year, the chickens are turning over the bed areas now. I dont kno wof anything else going on outside here until late witner or early spring.

I ordered an ounce of lettuce seeds to try to grow microgreens again, and some in the hydro unit. Thats several thousand seeds to experiment with. Also ordered some other oddball pepper seeds. The wife wanted me to find some lemon myrtle seeds but I havent ran across them yet.

I still need to get all the plants in for the winter. I have 24 hanging baskets that need to come in, and I don't know how many geraniums I need to too bring in. I was able to winter over the geraniums and begonias last year. I would love to do it again this year. I just don't know how I am going to get them all into the greenhouse. At least the begonias just store as bulbs, and don't take as much space.

I planted some lettuce, radicchio, mesculin, and broccoli in a raised bed in the greenhouse. I ate my first batch of greens yesterday in a salad. The garden is taking up a big chunk of the space in the greenhouse. So somehow I am going to have to figure out how to stuff in about 50+ plants into the greenhouse. I really could use a bigger greenhouse.

I also have a number of ferns that will need to come into the house. I am not looking forward to having them in the house they will start shedding needles shortly after I get them into the house. I will say that they are spectacular this year. They have thrived outside this year. I just wished the tomato plants had been able to produce. I did get 4 or 5 little tomatoes from the plants.

I guess that I really need to start to get the plants in. It is hard when they all still look so good.

. Actually, what I would like to try is pheasant. Never have had it and we have a "flock"/"herd" of them of about 8-10 that I see hanging out around here, again between our property and the neighboring orchard and neighbors field. The males are sure pretty.

Oh, what to do with a dog kennel....birds? hmmmmm, Chickielady has emus that need a home. 1 would fit in that wouldn't it?

Chicken Rustler, I have Crele OEGB's. I have extra boy chicks right now or I can get you some eggs. Or both. Boy chicks and eggs! They will fill up your new dog run just perfectly! And they are so pretty to look at!

Well, our weather for the week is 30-40 mph winds up to 55 mph gusts and rain and then snow....sounds like a crummy week. Think warm thoughts for me

Here is what I do with a dog kennel. Now keep in mind this was taken before the coop was tricked out. I have recently added a 22' x 28' out door run.

Very creative/handy...Lookin' sharp...now for you to just find the right birds for your new run/coop.

We probably would never shoot any of the pheasants in our backyard as there are too many neighbors and we like to watch them (the birds - not the neighbors). But, hey, if something happens and my family is hungry....offf to the table they go. Same with the quail, we help feed them all winter....I will eat them if push came to shove. I want to raise some pork or a beef, but the hubby has turned soft on me and says how could we make it a pet then eat it....I tell him EASY...name it porkchop or T-bone .... don't make it a pet. I was raised a farm girl...he was raised a city boy.

Check the Marans thread for today, you will see posts of the winning Cockeral and pullet Silver Cuckoo Marans and the big fuss with the maranites is that these birds are English!!!

It is possible the Silver is in the APA but the off shoots are not approved yet (ie: blues) so...there is a quiet uproar going on...on the marans thread you will see the winning birds in Ohio and the next page is some of mine in the compost pile
